IBM NetVista Doesn't Start up

Similiar to this link

I was just going to start using this computer after storing it for a few months. However, it will not start up. I plug it in, turn it on, and then nothing happens. Key board lights do not turn on, neither do mouse lights, but the mouse and keyboard both work fine on an adjacent computer (and the lights as well).

The other thing I found very curious was that when I hold down the power button for as long as I want the computer does not turn off.

I'm not going to buy a new computer, so I don't know what to do.

I have a 6 year old 6623-31U (I think that's correct). I usually leave it powered on overnight. About 3 weeks ago, it would not respond in the morning. The power light was on, but nothing would respond, anywhere. I unplugged it, and the only difference was that the power light went off and stayed off.

I replaced the computer, but I plan to use the old carcass to experiment. I plan to replace the power supply to see if that does it. If not, I'll investigate further as time allows.

    Any thougts?

Hit escape and then try turning off the computer. If computer will not start unplug cord running from the wall to the power pack and that should reset the voltage signal to the powerpack that the desktop is connected

There's probably a switch on the power supply that says 110 or 230 (something like that). Switch that and try again, both plugged in and unplugged.

"the computer does not turn off"

So something started up? Fan? Hard drive?

I have netvista 6578rbg, it can boot from the hard disk

Hi lyonson, I gather at one time the drive did function with Vista? IBM has some fix on their web site. Click this link below.
Even if one of these fix's does not match your exact model no# . Try one that is close. If it does not help call IBM. I assure you it is not your PC but Vista. (There has been & will continue to be more down time with MS's Vista than any other previous version of windows to date). If non of IBM's files listed help you, please call IBM from this link.

I wish I could help more but other suggestions involve erasing the drive & that's not a good idea if you have data on it.
I would appreciate it if IBM solves this issue or one of the firmware’s fix your issue & you post the results. I’d call IBM my self if I had all needed information written on the NetVista PC.

Good Luck!
