Had this happen on my LG side-by-side a few years back. It's a common part. Find the version for your make and model. Easy ti replace. It is located where the water suppy connects to the bottm refridge.
Check to see if there is a lock button that will stop the ice from comming out then check the pad that you push on to get the ice and see if its stuck in , there is a switch behind the pad and it will need to be replaced
Just wondering if you also have an ice dispenser that noise usually means the ice dispenser is full
and needs to be emptied if not sorry that is about all I have.
there should be two solenoid water valves in the back of the fridge one feeds the ice maker the other feeds water dispenser the one for the water could be bad or the switch in water dispenser
Lets try this first. Have someone with a voltage meter unplug the two wires on the side of the dual water control valve for water dispenser on rear of your refrigerator and place the red and black probes from meter into the female end of the dispenser side of plug. Then while someone presses the dispense water control have the other person read the voltage. It should read the same voltage as home voltage when pressed. Us care not to touch probe ends at time of testing. Please tell me your results. I don't think the door open had anything to do with this. Yes leaving a freezer door open for hours does confuse the refrigerators memory and produces heavy ice in strange places. Unpluging and replugging will resolve that. I think the water control valve began to fail by becoming weak and finally failed, Sea Breeze
check the door in the dispenser if moisture is condensing and freezing so that the door won't open try manually popping the door open just before you attempt to dispense ice, maybe you'll get lucky, otherwise your going to have to get a technician to come and check the micro-switch for the dispenser
Sounds tome that there is a short in the dispenser control circuit, keyboard or Control Board. If you had the model number I could help you better than this. I possibly would be able to walk you through this, Let me know, Sea Breeze
