No. Have her reboot and retry. Then check the keyboard connection. Still nothing, then, the keyboard may have failed and needs replaced.

Acer eRecovery management Restore system to factor default but I don't know the password

Locate and Unhide Hidden Rescue Partition
  • 1 Access the Diskpart command prompt. Acer stores custom eRecovery passwords on your computer in PQService, a hidden rescue partition. Locating this partition requires accessing the Diskpart utility from the command prompt. Diskpart allows you to run a scan on your hard drive and bring up hidden partitions. To access Diskpart, go to Start and type "cmd" in the search bar to bring up the black command prompt box, and then type "diskpart" at the prompt to switch to a Diskpart prompt. Depending on your computer, a new command prompt may open with the Diskpart prompt.
  • 2 Scan your computer configuration. At the Diskpart prompt, type "rescan" to run a system configuration check. When the scan finishes, you will receive a message informing you the scan is complete. At the command prompt, type "list disks" to bring up available disks and then type "select disk 0."
  • 3 Locate the hidden partition. At the command prompt, type "list partition" to view a list of partitions on your disk. Locate the partition with no name and a size of approximately 10GB. At the command prompt, type "select partition (number)."
  • 4 Determine the partition type and unhide the partition. The hidden PQService partition will be either a type 27 or a type 12 partition. If the partition is type 27, unhide it by typing "set id=07 override," and if a type 12, then unhide it by typing "set id=0B" at the command prompt.
  • 5 View the PQService partition. Return to the disk containing PQService by typing "select disk 0" at the command prompt, and then type "list volume" to view the contents of the disk. PQService will be visible in the list, preceded by a number. Type "select volume (number)" and then assign PQService a new drive letter so you will be able to open and view it from your computer interface window. At the command prompt, type "assign letter=f."
Reset eRecovery Password
  • 1 Open PQService. Navigate to the drive containing PQService. Find the file "aimdrs.dat." Right-click on the file and select "Open with" and then "Textpad," "Notepad" or another text editor you prefer.
  • 2 Open the file and find the password. Open the file with your text editor and locate the eRecovery password. Look for a line that reads, "Password=password name," "Hint=the password hint." Write down the password and close the file.
  • 3 Open eRecovery using the recovered password and follow the instructions to create a new password.

The number four on my laptop is not working

To get around the problem, open a text file (e.g. notepad but not word)
type your password and for the number 4, copy it from a website ) and paste it into the text file. (So you could copy it from this page, just highlight the number 4 here and then right click, copy and then go to your notepad file and paste it in).

When you have your password composed in the text file, highlight it and copy then paste it into the password field for your email. Make sure you copy only the password and no spaces that might appear at the end of the password.

To fix the number 4 key, you might be able to gently pry it off, clean the area gently with a cotton tip ... replace the key. Sometimes they are just dirty. But be very careful, you can end up damaging more than just the one key.

It is quite easy to replace keyboards on laptops so if you have a friend who is a fix it sort of person...just google replace keyboard [enter your laptop name] and you'll find a video or instructions.

I just got an Acer Aspire 6920 from a friend but don't know the HDD user password. How can I reset it without the old one?

The obvious and simple answer is call or text your friend. This will save you several hours of tinkering. Otherwise, here is an article that list several password retrieval or reset tools that should get you fixed up. You will obviously need a working computer to access the article, and download and burn one of the tools they highlight onto an ISO formatted CD. Then use that CD to boot your hosed computer to find or reset your Windows password.

System resetting a acer laptop that is locked

need more information to have a chance to figure this one out.
model number of acer laptop and type of windows operating system is it windows xp , is it windows 7, is it windows vista. Usually depending on the age of the laptop you may need to purchase a recovery cd from Acer that will reinstall Windows. You may have the recovery cd on a hidden partion on the hard drive and by pressing a certain key it will start up - newer laptops.
try looking at these web sites may find help at one of these

I forgot my hdd password of my notebook acer 5100.what i'm gonna do?

You can go on line to www.ebay.com type in laptop and beside it put password locked, a number of software solutions should come up, make sure it is the same operational system you have. narrow the search and type hard drive password locked. The only other option is use a recovery disc "if you have one" that came with the laptop and do a fresh install of your windows, this will erase the hard drive completely along with password and all your files.

Hi,

This is only possible is you are using Windows XP. If your operating system is windows Xp, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn on your laptop and allow it get to the stage where is will ask for user/log password
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del your keyboard.
  3. A user name and password prompt will pop up.
  4. On the user name type in "administrator
  5. On the password, type in "administrator"
  6. and you windows will open, go to control panel from there to change the password.
That's all. In other words, the user name and password is administrator.

But in the case of windows Vista, you will have to re-run windows operating system, because vista security is very tight.

Keyboard letter not working

Disabling just a single key on Windows is possible, but it is highly unlikely that a computer technician could have gone to Control Panel to remap the keyboard.

More likely, one of the keyboard switches is broken, and the A letter is not working anymore. This happens quite commonly, and when the problem occurrs, the keyboard will be replaced.

You can find out if problem is hardware or software going to CMOS settings, and chosing to set a password. Then setting BIOS password AAA. If the A letter works in there, then the problem is software, and it can be fixed reinstalling Windows, if A key does not work in BIOS settings, then the keyboard must be replaced.

The keyboard for an Acer 5315 is not an expensive part, and can be purchased for less than $20.

If a repair job had recently been done, and the laptop came back withthe keyboard problem, try calling back the repairman, and insisting for having the repair done at a reduced fee.
