Question about DeLonghi Pinguino PACL90 Portable Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Solid ice on coils

On one of my delonghi PACL90 models, there is a solid sheet of ice forming on the coils between them and the filter. I had it turned off and melted it with a hairdryer, drained it by openning the two drain tubes at the bottom, waited 12-14 hours and then tunred it on again only to have the ice form again. Is the unit gone or is there a solution?

Sounds like the compressor may not be shutting off, that may be the sensor (t-stat) or a freon leak, but usually only a partial part of the coil freezes up if it was low on freon an would not be cooling properly. if under a year old call manufacture. if 2-5 years old may still be under warranty if the repair is a freon issue. if its the sensor your looking at about 40. fot the part and roughly 75-95 for labor (depending were you take it too). check your purchase date and read your warranty 1st

Evaporator coils are freezing up. I took off the side cover and it is a solid sheet of ice covering 90% of the coils.

Hello, ice will form for one of two raesons, either low airflow or a low refrigerant charge. Start by checking the filter to make sure it is clean, then check the blower wheel and make sure it is clean. If the unit is clean then the unitnis low on refrigerant and will require a hvac tech to come out and recharge the unit.

Have a pac L90 and behind the filter it develops ice buildup after running for about 1 hour. Cleaned filter but problem is still there. Have used this unit for about 2 years

I have the same problem and mine is the same age. I think it's low on freon but no one near me works on them so I'll never know for sure.

Ice formed around the filter area last night. Unit quit cooling.

Ice forming means you have your AC set at a temp that is too low. Of course it cannot remove the heat from the air if no air can pass over the coils. There is very high humidity in the space you are trying to cool ... slow down a little on your cooling process.

Where can i purchase filters for my DeLonghi AC?

Well I found this page http://www.yourspares.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=1688461 and you can get the filter there for £22.25 , which is about $35.00. I simply took the part number EL7351031200 and searched for it. That's the cheapest one I could find though. I read that it's a 3M filtrete filter, and, knowing me, I would just buy a cheaper, larger filtrete filter at wal-mart, cut it to size, and glue it to the plastic frame of the old one. I hope you also know that you can wash the filter in warm water until it wears out.

they all take refrigerant but there are other things like dirty filter or condensor coils that will cause the same problem

PAC L90 LT thermostat not working, unit icing over

No that would be either a dirty filter/coil ir low refridgerant if it's freezing in cooling mode.

Clean/replace the filter, clean the coil and if it keeps doing it, have a technician who is EPA certified for servicing systems with refridgerant to look at it/add refridgerant.

Ice in the unit

Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

You said, Left house for a while with unit running and when I returned little or no air was emmiited from unit, and when I removed back cover, solid sheet of ice!

Sounds like you have a coolant leak or the thermostat is malfunctioning.
You need to have the freon checked first to see it is not low.
This one reason that will make it freeze up .
let me know how much freon it took.

Please remember to leave a rating before you go!
Thank you

DeLonghi Pinguino PACL90 MODEL

For a short time you can run without filters. I suspect it is low on charge or the metering devise is not working. Check this link out for an owners manual. It may help you.
