I bought a PRO-106 2 weeks ago and also the Radio Reference Program(software and cable) Wasn't able to get programmed within7 day program. Question: The Radio Rerference site says I need Advanced/Digital Radio Program($39.95) and then a Premium Sub Type? What do I need to program my new scanner?

ok Gary tri this go to manual on your pro106 and hit program and hit new and coniventional and then try putting in your p-25 frequency....yes i have this scanner it is awarked to program...Or you can go to tune on your scanner..and scan it that way that is the best way to scan your scanner.....if you have any problems Gary you can email me at [email protected]

you will have to buy the Radio Shack USB cable 20-047 and install
the driver for it and then I downloaded a program named
"Win97" from the www.starrsoft.com website as listed
on page 21 of the Pro-164 manual. The cable costs
$34.99 and with tax you are looking at about $37.88.

The "Win97" software must be registered for it to work
after a 30-day free trial period. That's approx $25.00.

This is the ONLY WAY to go !! You put in everything
on the software GUI and then upload it to the PRO-164.
Works like a champ . but if you have tried doing this.i advise do it again.again run the program by connecting the cable again.if you have not tried it then do it again. if still the same problem.then it might be the problem with the scanner.get it rechecked from radio shack. there are many many users facing this same problem this particular model of radioshack scanner and other model in which this same problem occurs is pro-197. get it checked with radio shack.tech. You will also need a software package to program your scanner. Unfortunately the cable does not come with the software. Try going to www.starrsoft.com and download a program called Win97. It is free for 30 days and makes programming a breeze and it can also interface with radioreference.com (if you are a paying subscriber to the radioreference.com site) to download automatically.If you don't mind doing a little typing, you can view the info on the site for free and enter it into the program.

As an employee of Radioshack, I have found that you can use scancat lite to progrom the pro 106. Programing conventional trunking systems work well with this system. However after three days of frustration I did find out how to program the digital channels. After programing the conventional channels in, you will have to program the digital channels in manually. Do not program the group id's into the scanner, just leave it in a "wildcat" search. When the group Id shows up while listening to the scanner push enter and that will program the Id in. When you got the all the Id's that you need, then program the scanner to a private mode, this will let you to listen to just what you want to listen to. I am still working on finding better solutions.

Rat Shack say they will load your scanner at no charge . The program is called Scan Cat I think .You can get the program on the net .Every Rat Shack has the program on the store computers . The 94 is not a bad scanner .Hope this helps .
