If you have moved these programs to a different location on your computer you may try making another desktop icon, or even reinstalling the program itself

If you are referring to the power up access code screen that comes up when you first turn on your computer, it can be erased by removing the disc type button battery located on your motherboard. Make sure computer is un pluged from the power source. Remove the button battery for 30 seconds. Re-install it and power the computer up. It will boot up normally. If you are referring to a lock out of your Operating System, you will need to purchase a password recovery / reset program and load it into your computer during start up using the boot drive options selections located in your start up / set up menus. After installing a game on my acer extansa 5235, my laptop then switched itself off. Then when starting up my laptop, it comes up with the 'start windows normally' or 'launch startup repair (recommended)....

Hi There.

1. Power off the laptop
2. Power on and immediately after pushing the power button hit the F8 key continually until a DOS Window opens allowing you to boot to Safe Mode.
3. Using the Up and Down arrows, select Safe Mode with Networking
4. When you are at your desktop, do the following.
a. Start Button
b. All Programs
c. Accessories
d. System Restore

Once at System Restore, choose a time to restore to before you installed the game. Restore the computer to that time and it should return to normal.

It probably goes without saying, but I would NOT install that game again.

Regards,

Selk

Forgot my administrative password

1
When you are booting up your computer, you need to press F8 in order to get into the per-windows start-up.

2
Once you are in this stage , you will need to boot your computer into safe mode. This will give you access to the basic programs of Windows XP.

3
Once you have booted into safe mode. You will have to access the administrator account and create a new account or you can reset your admins password from this location.

Thanks.

My computer is really slow. any suggestions?

You can do the following:

1. Perform a Disk Cleanup to delete all uneccessary files from your computer. Click Start button, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup. Choose drive C: and check all the boxes and start cleanup by hitting Ok.

2. Do a virus scan. The computer might be compromised thus performing so slow. Here's an effective and free online scan: http://eset.com/onlinescan

3. Defrag your computer. Go to Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Defragmenter. This is used to increase access speed by rearranging files stored in your computer.

4. Check for your computer's memory. If you have 2 memory sticks installed, one might have failed. Right click your My Computer and choose Properties. On the general tab, check if it still giving you the value of memory that you used to have on your computer.

Hope this helps.

Boots but to a blank screen just the pointer remains

Have you tried safe mode? You can access it by hitting F8 while the computer is booting up (I tend to press it at 1 second intervals, much faster and the computer gets annoyed :P) You'll get a menu that will let you pick safe mode.

If you can get at the desktop in safe mode then i would suggest shutting off all your start up programs (the list can be accessed by going to the start menu, selecting run, typing in "msconfig" and pressing enter). After those are shut off try rebooting back into normal mode and see if that works. If it does, then you know that a program starting up with the computer is causing the problem and just need to be singled out and removed.

Good luck :)

Computer will not start past safe mode screen

In safe mode, hit start button -run, and type "msconfig" in the box , hit enter.
the system configuration utility opens.
select startup tab at the top
when the startup screen opens, UNcheck all the boxes, press APPLY, then OK
the computer will prompt you to restart, when it restarts it will give you a message saying you have use the system configuration utility to change the way windows starts, this is normal. Check the box that say dont show this again and click OK.
doing this will keep the programs set to start when windows starts from starting untill you start them manually. If one of them is causing the freeze, this will make the system accessible.
Keep in mind, you may want to turn some of them back on after you get the computer going and when you do , turn them on one at a time and restart the computer after each change. this way you can identify which program is causing the problem.
Hope this helps. please repost if you have more questions
