It seems like vista did not install correct drivers
Use PC wizard program to find what drivers are needed for your m/board search net for them and install http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php I could not find video driver through normal compaq sites wizard found type and number searched for it worked perfectly

unless and until you have the correct drivers for your m/board and hardware a lot of items will not work. Go to start/ control panel/system/device manager/ check if any items have yellow or red question marks on them these are the drivers you need.go to acer website check for drivers for your model computer

Hello, i am having a problem with my f7 function key. when i press it its randomly stopped working and now says no function. plese an you halp me fix the problem asap please!! :D

try unstalling your keyboard from the device manager in the control panel. Restart your PC, and if you have one of the following operating systems the keyboard will automatically be reinstalled. That should solve the problem.
Operating systems:
Winows XP
Windows Vista
Windows 7

Also, have you tried another keyboard? like an external keyboard?

Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop with FN Volume issues.

Starbug1S1- This may have been something you have already checked but I will suggest anyways. You said you had control of your sound from other means - Sounds and Audio Devices properties was one- did you notice a check box that reads Place volume icon on the task bar. This may remedy part of your problem if you put a check in the box. Hopefully this helps. Thanks.

KEYBORD PROBLEM

Hello,

If your keyboard is not working right there are two suggestions I have to see if the problem is with the keyboard or the computer. If you have access to another computer I would plug it into that and try it out. If it works fine there then you know the issue is with the computer. If it doesn't then you may want to talk to the manufacturer if the computer is under warranty to get a free keyboard. If it's not under warranty you may want to pick up a new key board. They are only about $10 - $15.

If the keyboard seems to work on another computer it is likely an issue with the computer. One possibility could be the keyboard drivers. This is more common on keyboards with buttons alone the top to turn the computer on/off and open Internet Explorer. If this is the case see if you still have the drivers disk that came with the computer and use that to reinstall the drivers for your keyboard.

If you reinstall the drivers and it is still happening the best way to find what is causing the issue is to keep an eye on what you are doing when the keyboard stops working. Is it in Internet Explorer? Is it in Notepad? Is it in Windows Mail? And if it stops working in one of these programs does it work in other programs and just not that specific program? This would indicate that the issue is with that program and not with the keyboard or Windows.

I hope this helps!

I have a problem with keyboard volume control

These instructions are for Windows XP:

  • The volume button, brightness key, and disc eject button on some computers will not work if the HotKey Utility application is not running.
  • The Magnify button and the Fn keys will not function properly before the operating system has finished starting.
  • The setting may not be saved if the ESC key is used to close the Fn display. Press the ENTER key or allow the Fn display to close automatically to save the setting.
  1. Click the Start button, then click Run .
  2. In the Run window, next to Open , type MSCONFIG .
  3. Press the ENTER key.
  4. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
  5. On the Startup tab, under Startup Item , ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox. NOTE: If HKserv is missing, reinstall the HotKey Utility application and the Sony Utilities Library.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. In the System Configuration box, click the restart button.

Volume buttons

Hello Gavrilov,

As I understand that you are facing issue with the Qucik Touch buttons of the volume on the notebook.

If this is correct, install the Quick Touch buttons drivers on the notebook.
Here are the drivers for Quick touch buttons:

Windows XP:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp29501-30000/sp29528.exe

or

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39425.exe

Windows Vista:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38266.exe

Keyboard stucked

This is not necessarily a one shot fix all, but, I would kind of relate this either to an overheating issue or a BIOS/North Bridge error. I would look up a good CD-booting diag software like Eurosoft's PC Check. do a full diagnostic of all your hardware, including the USB ports. You can also attempt to download more recent software from the webcam's manufacturer. Another simple check is to try someone elses cam on your pc to see if the same problem exists. It could be something as simple as the software you are using your cam on.

Vaio laptop volume problem

What version of windows are you runing? If it's pre xp it's probably nothing you are doing, windows's likes to corrupt itself over time. You can bypass your on keyboard volume by right clicking on the speaker icon in your system tray (lower right corner where your clock is) and click open audio properties, everything can be controlled in here. Good Luck
