Sound Card Hi, my name is Lala and I have just recently reformatted my computer due to various problems. Everything runs smoothly now but I have NO sound. Every time I open windows media player and try to play something I get: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly. 0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons: Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again. Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation. You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again. Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000 I don't know what happened. When I go into control panel and click sounds and audio devices I can not change any of the settings because the colors are like, dulled so when I try and click on anything nothing happens. It also says no audio device under the volume panel. I don't see what's wrong because I had sound before so I don't know what could have happened. I'm not really good with this system talk. Please help, thanks in advanced. :]

You may need to access the computer's manufacturer website to download the sound drivers. another way you could try is to click Start > Run > type devmgmt.msc and hit <Enter> to open device manager

go to the Sound section and expand it --- then highlight the device and right click and then select Update Driver.

How will i know the sound card of my pc? i have it reformat. now i donno how to identify my sound card..

Many name brand companies will supply the common component drivers on their website. If you look up your system model then you should at least be able reduce the number of cards you are looking for.
There are various freeware packages that claim to identify the unknown devices, but I find sifting through a handful of drivers from a manufacturer website is much faster and more reliable.
If the computer was custom built then their should have been provided software discs or information to identify the card. On board sound cards can also be identified by visiting the motherboard manufacturer website and searching for the board model. A list of drivers is typically available and even more refined than common manufacturers of systems.

You should install the sound card driver. The proper drivers should be given while buying your laptop. If not or you lost it, you cn download the driver from acer's site.

I need to reinstall my sound card but i cant find out what sound card i have. there is nothing listed in the device manager.

Hi there,
This could be due to the fact that the sound card driver might have been deleted by accident. Nevertheless, do a fresh install of the driver if you still have the CD with you.

Hi,
Follow the procedure for speaker installation here. Verify it.
As this is a very basic output device, it uses the computer's Audio drivers to channel the sound from each speaker correctly. Make sure that your audio driver is installed and working. Other wise open another ticket and give us info on the sound card

Computer Sound Sporadically Cuts Out

i would advise trying the sound card in a different computer. it may not be possible for you, but maybe you have a friend that will let you try it on their computer. also, can you make the problem come and go by wiggling the connection? on my computer i have to have the wire just right or i lose the left speaker. i think you can solve this without having to reformat. what about headphones? do they work when plugged into the headphone jack?
