Question about Kenmore 41512 / 41514 / 41519 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Kenmore 41514 side by side had the clicking noise. Had the relay on the compressor replaced, but still makes the clicking noise. This started on Sunday and its now Tuesday. Everything is still cold on both sides. I believe that the fan is what we still hear running, which it does more than usual. What is the next step. Could it be a warning before the compressor goes out? Repairman seems to believe we have a bad wire harness causing a short.

Thanks for the answer, but we have a very basic model. We do not have the ice maker hooked up, nor do we have any in-door despensing. The noise is defenitely coming from the base of the fridge.

One other thing I would check is the gear drive on the ice maker.I have seen them get a broke or chipped tooth on gear and make a clicking noise trying to engage.May not help but it costs nothing to try. Thank you and hope you have a good new year.

If the compressor is where you can get close to it or at least see it then I would see if it has a small safty switch mounted on top of it. Not all units that I have worked on has this but it is meant to protect the compressor from burning out if it is trying to draw to many amps. They will make a clicking sound but unfortunatly it generally means the compressor is about gone. However if everything is still staying cold then maybe you'll get lucky and just need to replace this switch. Best of luck to you and thank you.

Hi!
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
It does a lot of clicking (trying to start over and over again)
If thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
I use part no ERP410 POWER START RELAY, CAPACITOR AND OVERLOAD all in one. (110 v)

You should have replaced the relay. The clicking was the overload working doing what it should.
Before replacing the compressor relay, unplug the refrigerator to avoid an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor, it must be discharged.
The compressor relay can be accessed by removing the terminal cover box. The cover is held on by tension or with a retaining clip.

My bottom freezer amana refrigerator is making a clicking noise. And my freezer is barely cold.

Refrigerator making clicking noise compressor not running.

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Remove the lower cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it's bad is to shake it. If it rattles, it's bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it's ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it does not cost much. A quick check on the compressor is to remove the start relay. You will see 3 pins connect a multi meter set for continuity. You should have continuity between any of the 3 pins. If you do not the compressor is bad. Also check from each pin to a good ground on the cabinet. There should be no continuity if there is the compressor is bad. If you replace it and it doesn't work then the compressor is bad and you'll need to call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). You can enter your model # at Refrigerator clicking for diagrams and illustrations or to purchase a start relay. A 3 in 1 start relay will also work fine.

Compressor is making a clicking noise when trying to cycle on. I cleaned lots of dust from underneith. Could the dust kill the compressor? Can they reset themselves?

Your clicking is most likely from a bad compressor start relay.
That is the electrical device on the side of the compressor. It is a common part failure.
Enter your model number in the parts site listed and order a new relay.

Kenmore refridgerator not blowing cold air.

You need to replace the overload/relay . This is the piece plugged onto the side of the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires going to it . It is easily replaceable . Take your model number with you when you get the part kit , so you get the correct replacement . DO NOT use a 3 in 1 hard start . This item is used by inexperienced technicians , and will only last a short time . Get what is called for , for your refrig .

You need to clean your coils under the 'fridge,' and wait 24 hours, if it is not not getting cold, perhaps replace the freon. If that does not work, you need to call a repairman.

Kenmore 106.53603202 stopped cooling making a clicking sound

The compressor is locked up. The clicking noise is the thermal overload turning the relay off and on. The only solutions you have are installing a hard start capacitor. Ther local appliance parts supplier will have this. Its easy to install I personally have had a 50% success rate with these, but its relatively cheap fix if it works, as the other solution is a new compressor. Good luck.

Kenmore not freezing nor cooling. humming noise

DONT SAY THAT COMPRESSORS BAD YET !!!! TECHCUMSE AND COPELAND ALL HAVE THE SAME COMPONENTS FOR STARTING THE COMPRESSOR. ALL COMPRESSORS HAVE EITHER A "PIN-TYPE PLUG-IN START RELAY, OR CAPACITOR START ASSIST RELAY" TO GET THE COMPESSOR TURNING.( FROST-FREE REFRIGERATORS ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE A START-CAPACITOR, RELAY, AND T-STAT COMBO ON ALL MAKES. THE IN LINE BI-METAL TYPE T-STAT THAT PREVENTS THE COMPRESSOR FRON OVER HEATING... THEY CAN GO WEAK. THIS IS THE "CLICKING SOUND YOU ARE HEARING !!! CALL A REPUTABLE DEALER THAT IS "FACTORY CERTIFIED" FOR YOUR MAKE AND MODEL AND GET A "FLAT-RATE" DIAGNOSTIC CHECK PERFORMED. NEVER LET A REPAIRMAN TAKE DEFECTIVE PARTS OUT OF YOUR HOUSE FOR ANY REASON. BY LAW THEY HAVE TO LET YOU KEEP THEM UNLESS THEY ARE REPLACING THEM COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR EXCHANGE. UNFORTUNATELY HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS ARE "BILKED" BY THE " DOI-IT-ALL REPAIR-MAN. MOST MANUFACTURES ONLY HAVE 1 YEAR ON COMPRESSORS FOR REFRIGERATORS 5-10 YEARS ON A/C COMP. DONT BE AFFRAID TO WATCH AND ASK QUESTIONS TO REPAIRMEN YOU LET "INTO YOUR HOME".
