Question about Kidde 1275 Hardwire Smoke Alarm with Hush Feature and Battery Backup, Contr

4 Answers

I can't find the source of a chirping sound in my house (in or around the kitchen). It chirps once every 37 seconds and sounds like a smoke detector when the batteries get low. But it isn't my smoke detectors, I temporarily removed them to isolate the problem and the chirping remains. I also turned all power off in the house and the chirping remains. I have a new Frontpoint wireless alarm. I thought it may be related to that but the alarm company says their equipment dosen't make that sound. When I think I have it narrowed down to one corner of the kitchen I'll walk over there to investigate and then the sound comes from a different corner of the kitchen. Driving me crazy!!!

Hi Gang, I'm a late-comer to this forum, but I am having this exact same problem. About every 10-15 minutes, and for 33-34 seconds(very consistent) and about 9 times, I get a chirp over my bar in the tv room. We do not have smoke detectors. Its driving us nuts. This started around the time we had a "smart electric meter" installed. I wonder if any of you figured this out?

My Smotec 3786A indicates not to install it in greater than 85 % humidity. Mine goes off when it gets very humid, it would seem.

Dgenerous, did you ever find the source? I've having the same issue! Strange! I've narrowed it down to the kitchen...or living room.

dgenerous and kamelinou, I am having the exact same problem. Chirping sound every 30 seconds or so that seems to be coming from above the kitchen ceiling. Nothing is there -- no smoke detectors, alarm sensors, etc. Problem started when power went out due to Irene and has lasted a week now, well after power was restored. It is the strangest electrical problem that I've ever run into. It is not the dishwasher, telephone, alarm system, etc. Were you able to find a solution to your situations?

according to the second page of the manual (found online at the link provided), it sounds like your detector has reached end of life and must be replaced. CO detectors have a finite life span.

Had customer with CO detector sounding quick double chirp about every five minutes. What is this?

This is not a beeping smoke detector. It is probably a CO detector that was installed by your alarm company. GE model 240-COE will give a double beep every 5.5 minutes when the device reaches end of life. Call your alarm company to have it replaced.

Smoke detector keeps chirping after battery is changed, chirps every 30 seconds. chirps come from the ceiling not the device

The chirp means the battery you chose wasn't good enough... it has to be the newest '''alkaline''' you can get hold of. If it isn't alkaline that's why you are having trouble. Upon replacement press the button to do a hard reset.

My kidde AC smoke alarm I12020 chirps at night then come daylight it makes no noise

Most "chirping" is indicative of low batteries. Perhaps your smokes are improperly wired through a light switch? As to locating, try using a piece of tape over the sound port to change the sound; with these problems there are often more than one causing it. Check also to see if you have any CO alarms that were plugged into a switched outlet. Most of these also have battery backup. Good luck!

I have the Firex i4618, after changing the battery it continues to chirp, have tried 2 new Duracell proper model batteries with same result.

Smoke Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (Its not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon Amazon: Amazon com Smoke Alarm. I hope this helped you. Have a nice day

This is one of 6 in our house. It is emitting light chirps every 30 seconds or so, I thought maybe this meant low battery, so put in a new one. no change. I can't take it down or apart, and want it...

Check ur main a/c source of power yet? This kind of smoke detector draw alot of power.Battery replacement should used the best kind of batteries out there like Duaracell,Energizer or litium rechargable batteries. After the replacement of the battery, should press the reset button like for at leat minute for the smoke detector to go off for about 30 sec. for it to dectect the new back up battery power source.Should solved this lower power detection problems.

BRK smoke/co2 detector - won't stop beeping

sometimes the alarms are ganged to other apartments .. that's so if there is a fire in one apartment then others are alerted as well .. so the low battery warning could be from a neighbor ... also there may be a common ceiling space that will allow you to hear your neighbors detector .. at any rate someone around you has a low battery in their detector .. if they are ganged then that may be an apartment management maintenance item ..
