Question about Brother HL-4040CN Laser Printer

I rec'd a fax this morning w/ a 2" solid black line on the right hand column. I also noticed that the screen reads "drum end soon." Are those two things related? And, what is "drum end soon" and what do I do about it? Thanks! - Monica Graham, Director of Admissions, Maryvale Preparatory School

You replace an original print cartridge. (Make and the model No.)
Both the problem is same, because of the damaged / faulty drum of right
side the black line is prominent.

Print out an internal report of some kind from the control panel. if line/band is still there, then drum most likely is the problem. sometimes however, that band can originate from the sending fax. "drum end soon" means your drum has come close to the 17,000 prints it is rated for and you need to get a DR110 drum unit. the drum unit is what your 4 toners sit in.

I just replaced my Muratec F-305 drum DK 203OUS with new one and the red warning dot comes up and says "Drum near end" with the new drum. What is wrong?

Yes, the display was saying "drum near end"....it was not saying to replace the drum,... you only replace the drum when it says "replace drum"....right now you have b;own the fuse in the new drum because you replaced it TOO SOON. You will have to find someone to replace the mini-fuse in the drum cartridge...it will still be ok...but soon you will not be able to print on the machine,,,READ THE USERS MANUAL.

Leaving a wide black line in right hand side of transaction

Pop open the fax document feeder, and look for a glass strip about 1cm wide, that runs from left to right across the machine.
You will probably see a few spots of dirt, or more commonly, a blob of white liquid paper stuck on the glass, on the side of the machine that corresponds to the black lines on your fax.
Clean this glass strip gently, using a soft cloth dampened with a mild detergent. I often use diluted windex. You may need to scrape liquid paper gently with your fingernail. Close the cover.

Next, put a blank sheet into the feeder and make a copy of the blank page. If you have cleaned it properly, the copy will be blank as well. If you still have a line, align it with the feeder and use this as a guide to show you where the glass may still have some **** stuck on it.

Good luck!

Solid black lines on the right side of page

Try sliding the blue tab on the drum unit side-to-side. If that does not cure it, you need a new DRUM UNIT

A bar code stripe on the right side of the copy.

i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.

good luck,

2" BLACK LINE

1- itis on the Scanning unit open and look for a thin strip of glass, clean
2-the scanning unit is bad

Assuming it's only on Outgoing Fxs and not incoming as well ( that would indicate the drum)
