My sons psp will not read or even reconize that there is a umd in it what do you think the problem is

u will need to press the home button the go down and click on where it reads then move it to umd

nothing really, it happens to my psp but the game works still. i think you have coloured your psp near the umd area

I incounter this problem as well even without UMD its still loading and even I disable auto-start UMD still same so I tried reflashing the software but still same problem so I discover the solution before you turn-on your PSP try to open your UMD cover you'll see it will load faster then close again the cover once you see the battery and clock icon... I think the it is possible your UMD case is cracked and the clear part is pressing down on the disc inside. Check and pull the clear part of the case from the media disc.

your son probably dropped his PSP at the time and the UMD drive broke or if your son says he didnt drop it you can get a cutip and softly clean your UMD reader the little bubble sorta in your PSP be carful while doing that

Your PSP's laser has been damged.. You will have to get it replaced preferably by a tech from sony..
