Take a coat hangar (one of those nasty metal ones) straighten it out as long as you can get it and slowly slide into hose, twisting it as you go. You can also tap hose when doing this to loosen anything jammed in there.

On the canister where up open from the top, is a round hole with a foam piece. When I vacuum is opens and losses suction and makes a weird noise. What is this piece and whats happening?

Hi,

If you are referring to what almost looks like an exhaust, it is the bleed valve which is opening. The purpose is to ensure there is some airflow from somewhere when the machine has become blocked. This is usually accompanied by a whistle noise.

I would go through the checks in the following web pages and make sure that your filters have been washed frequently.

How to remove blockage from the wand and hose

How to remove blockage from the cleanerhead and brushbar

I hope this helps.

Nothing going into dirt canister

Is there suction at the hose? If not it is either blocked or the suction fan is broken. If there is, then there is a blockage in the pickup section, something is lodged across the channel after the brushes and before the place where the hose plugs in.

I think there is a safety switch to prevent it from running with the canister out so hard to check for suction at the top of the motor/suction fan. Make sure nothing is over that part under the canister too! If you can figure out how to bypass the safety switch (if there is one), you should have good suction where the canister sets on top of the motor base.

Loss of suction when pulling out the hose and then the hose sucks up tight. . . cleaned the filter under the canister. not sure how to do anything else. . .

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC14 Animal. It sounds as if there may be a blockage in the hose, wand or U-bend of your machine. To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=657&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

Please note, the filter underneath the clear bin does not need maintainance - so if you've washed this, you may want to email us at askdysonUS@dyson.com for further assistance as the filter may have been damaged.

Best wishes,

Jack

Seems like there is a decrease in suction?

Ensure that the canister is emptied thoroughly and that there is no blockage in vacuums path (Check for Kleenex's or in my case, cat toys)

It's lost suction even though we've cleaned the filters. Is there anything else we can clean?

Yes. Remove the hose, disconnect all the different sections and visually check for blockages. Make sure you check the cleaning head as well. If nothing is visible reassemble by adding ONE SECTION AT A TIME and check the suction by switching the power on and seeing if the hose will stay stuck to your hand when you turn it upside down. If you find that the suction dies after re-attaching a particular section, then there is a blockage in that section. Make sure you re-connect all sections of hose fully and correctly.

Try this and report back.

Dyson power head stops when on carpets, cleaned brush out, still happens.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

As the Turbine head is air driven, you may need to wash the filter and check the rest of the machine for a blockage as a loss of suction will also reduce the performance of the Turbine head.

For the full blockage procedure and filter washing instructions, please visit the Support section of our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

Dyson suction loss

make sure the filters in the bottom are clean, then remove the canister and you will need to clean it thouroughly, pay close attention to the upper section inside where the "cones" come togetheri have read that they are prone to clog up here and lose suction, google dyson suction loss or how to clean a dyson ect...pay attention to getting the rod that releases the bottom to dump back in the correct place or it will not work right. a few write ups tell about this!

No suction

Check again for obstructions in the hose. Also underneath where the debri goes when it is being sucked up. Also make sure all your hoses are connected as this could effect the suction.
