Question about GE Ovens

3 Answers

I have a 16 year old GE XL44 which has a manual turn clock that keeps buzzing. My husband stopped it, but it is going off again. The manuals I am finding on-line have electric clocks which we don't have. Any suggestions to disconnect/stop manual clock from continuing to buzz all night? Thank you!

The clock shaft is most likely worn. I need a model number to really be of any help. The model number should be located on the face of the bottom drawer on a data plate that will also have a serial number. Most of the time replacing just the clock shaft does NOT fix the buzzing in a mechanical clock. Usually the clock has to be replaced.

I'm not sure about each model but in my gas range XL44, there is a part called Audio Indicators & Alerts PKM22EPP-40 on the back of the control panel, if you don't know what it is, then click this link http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=PKM22EPP40.
Just simply unplug it and the sound is gone, the clock is working fine, however you won't hear the ding alerting anymore when using the oven for baking, toasting, or broiling. This part is real cheap couple dollars but hard to find. Buy it http://www.questcomp.com/questdetails.aspx?pn=PKM22EPP-40&utm_source=Findchips&utm_medium=industry-cpc&utm_term=PKM22EPP-40&utm_content=StandardPricing&utm_campaign=FindchipsWS

The problem with this solution is that then you would not be able to use the self cleaning feature as you need the clock to set the time. Our clock has stopped buzzing after my husband disconnected the stove for a while. We know that's not a permanent solution and it could start buzzing again anytime. Next time it does I'm getting a new stove. :)

Greetings,
Remove the power from the stove to prevent shock..remove rear access panal and locate clock....there will be a small motor attached to the clock..cut the wire going to the clock motor and tape....there are other ways, but this is easiest to explain..the clock will not be working after this...or, you can have your clock rebuilt or replaced with a current digital clock

My father solved this one, those clocks were such a hassle, ours buzzed for days til he fixed it. It requires opening the control panel and bypassing the wiring that allows the clock to turn the oven on and off. Of course you lose this function. Is that the complete model number?

Ge xl44 gas range, oven will not come on. everthing else works fine

If you see the ignitor glowing down there that means power is getting to the oven circuit. You have a weak ignitor if that is the case. Sometimes you can bump it and make it work. Check out this video

GE XL44 Gas Stove and Oven. Everything works normal except the oven which stopped working suddenly (no flame). Couldn't find the manual to check troubleshooting guide.

The oven uses a silicone carbide ignitor which requires 3.6 amps or better to open the gas safety valve.
If you don't see any glow from it then it is either blown or the gas valve has gone bad. If it is glowing but not real bright it probably is weak.

Hi Leslie,

First of all, the manual isn't going to help you much as they only usually provide information on installation and operation. Also, if the oven is indeed 40 years old, it's probably going to be rather difficult to obtain one.

Considering the age of the oven and your description, it's most likely that the element has simply burnt out rather than any electrical fault. If it's the original element, 40 years is pretty good going!

If you post back with the model number of the oven, I might be able to find the manual and/or a supplier for a new element, but there's no guarantee a replacement is available. It's possible to fit non-standard elements as long as they are of similar size and the same rating, but I would leave that to an engineer as it can require new fixings if the pattern is different.

Regards,
BElectric

Ge xl44 oven not igniting but burners ignite

The most common failure for a nobake on this type of oven is the bake ignitor. turn unit on and look at the bottom of the oven, you should after about 30-45 seconds see an ORANGE glow, if you do not, chances are you have a failed ignitor.Remove lower part of oven and if you have a meter, place one lead on each terminal and check for continuity( a closed circuit)
If you have an "open" circuit, the ignitor is bad
