Green light flashes then nothing happens (by 2 users)

When I press the on button the green light flashes but the lens does not extend, it does not beep, the display does not come on...nothing. It was working fine until the last battery change then it started doing this. I've tried several new sets of batteries but no change. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem. The camera will only work if I hold down the power button continuously which obviously is not a viable solution. Any ideas anyone??
