Question about Dell OptiPlex GX270 Small Mini-Tower Desktop (162823025)

1 Answer

Hello I have a Dell optiplex GX270, with the mobo it comes with. It will boot, has sound coming from the HD, CD drive, cpu cooling fan, etc, but will not show anything on the monitor and the keyboard won't light up. The light on the mobo and front power light are solid yellow. I've tried- Different PSU x 2 Different Graphics Card x 3, + tried standard onboard graphics slot. Different Monitor x 2 Tried to install Ubuntu (linux) with a burned disc, still no visual on the monitor or lights on the keyboard. Obviously, because I couldn't get my monitor to work my HD still has windows on it. everything worked with a different computer, including the linux disc, monitors, input devices, etc. Can you help? Thanks in advance!

Dell GX270 has D amber light

An Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard.
Remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

I have a dell optiplex gx 270 when i start it say no boot device available press F1 to retry and F2 for setup in setup i am not able to locate where to check weather it is picking HD and CD...

one step you can check boot device menu by clicking f2
first boot device should be HDD hard drive
if it is also correct then surely the hard drive is faulty and you need to contact dell at 1-800-624-9896

My dell optiplex gx270 will not boot up it is saying the sata primary drive is not found. your assistance would be appreciated. thanks!

Is your PC running well before? If yes, check the Harddisk (HD) on the BIOS mode. Is it detected? check your data cable & power cable to HD. If you try to add other HD (secondary) check the jumper of your HD. Usualy 'slave' for second HD.

Dell optiplex gx270 shuts down when cpu setting is on normal but runs when on compatible mode

The GX270 has a manufacturers defect with the motherboard. Open up the case and look at the capacitors, they look like a bunch of upsidedown double AA batteries sticking out of the board. The capacitors on the GX270 are bad if you see a crust on them or some kind of brown liquid, DO NOT TOUCH this it is battery acid.

Dell Optiplex GX270 lockup and s3 standby lockup

have you tried changing your boot sequence (setting your hd as first boot source?) in set-up?
just asking- if you still have cd as first boot device, it should go to second choice (hd?), with no problem, but you might try re-setting to manufacturers settings, and go from there! is it set for pnp support? check all this stuff!
amber means 'standbye- or sleep mode'- tapping a key, or mouse button should bring it out. every manufacturer has their 'little quirks', that can be confusing!!
good luck!

Dell Optiplex GX270 sounds like a jet taking off. What is wrong and what do I need to do to fix it?

Hi,
You have to find out where the noise is coming from. It could be;
1) a fan on your motherboard if it has one
2) the fan on your heatsink that keeps your cpu cool
3) the fan on your power supply unit
4) a cd or dvd rom drive
5) one of your hard drives
6) one or more of your case fans.
7) a fan on your video card if you have one.

You don't want to open your power supply, so if this is the cause of the noise you can replace the whole PSU. Other than that, any other component listed above can be replaced by going to newegg.com for parts.

Good luck,
Hank

Loud "jet engine taking off" type sound

If you changed out the power supply then the only other device that could be making that noise is your CPU cooling fan. To be sure, open the case and disconnect the CPU cooling fan plug from the motherbrd (MAKE SURE POWER IS OFF) and see if the noise stops. Don’t worry about the “Fan Failure Error” when you turn on the computer. Just hit F1 to continue. Don’t leave the computer running without the fan plugged in longer then necessary. After tying this procedure, please contact me for further diagnosis.
