How do you open the case to access RAM and HDD on the ACER Aspire One D255? Removing seven screws around the bottom side is easy, and it seems to want to pop apart around most of the top and around the inner bottom panel, but wont easily pop open completly. When you get it to this point, it seems like the keyboard needs to come out to reveal a few more screws, but how to remove that is not so obvious either. What are the tricks to opening this thing without breaking it?

Hi,

To remove the keyboard there are little clips you have to push back at the top of the keyboard. they are located above the F8, F12 Del and Esc keys. Push the tabs back and then use a very small flat headed screwdriver to pry the keyboard up. Gently lift the the keyboard towards you being carefull of the ribbon cable that is directly under the keyboard. Below is a link to a YouTube video which maybe of some help to you.

The optical (CD) drive on your Acer laptop connects to the side of the device and is accessed via the underside of the computer.
If you are having problems with the optical drive on your laptop you should address it as soon as possible, and one thing you may need to do is remove it.
The good news is that even if you aren't particularly tech savvy, you'll find that the process of removing and replacing your optical drive is relatively easy.
Turn your Acer off and remove any power cables that may be attached to the side of the unit. Turn your Acer upside down.
Slide the battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Locate the circular optical drive retaining screw on the underside of your laptop.
It is located just above the square WiFi compartment in the middle of the computer.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and set it aside.
Grip the optical drive by its edge on the side of the computer and gently pull to remove it from the computer.
Slide a new optical drive into the computer, making sure the disk opening is facing out of the laptop.
Replace the optical drive screw.

Replace the CD Drive on an Acer Aspire 5000
The CD drive of the Acer Aspire 5000 is designed like most other laptop optical drives.
The CD drive is on the right-hand side of the computer and is attached with screws from the back of the case.
All you need to complete the task is a screwdriver.
To avoid electric shock or damage to the laptop, always ground your tools by touching them against a metal object like a table leg before using them on the computer.

Turn the Acer Aspire 5000 laptop off.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the power cord from the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Flip the laptop over so you are looking at the bottom of the case.
Slide the battery pack off the top of the case.
You'll see the CD drive on the left-hand side of the laptop when you are looking at the bottom of the case.

Unfasten the screws that are holding the CD drive onto the laptop with a screwdriver. Slide the drive out of the case.
Slide the new CD drive into the case and secure it with the screws.
Place the battery pack in the laptop and turn the computer back over so it is sitting on its base. Plug the power cord into the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Plug the other end of the cord into the electrical outlet.

How do you install 2 gb memory in acer aspire one D255

vtxgreg, I typed out a lengthy solution to replace Ram Memory in an Acer Aspire One D255, but after looking through it once finished, I thought this to be the better solution.

1) Video of how to remove the Keyboard,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoTwln2SyQ4

[ NOTE*
I advise against using a utility knife blade. That's just Dumb! Use a small flat tipped Jewelers screwdriver.

I also advise buying, and wearing an ESD wrist strap. Your body carries Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.
(You probably won't even see it, or feel it)

Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
{I connect to the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case}
Price for an ESD wrist strap averages around $3 to $6.
Here is an example of one,

(You can get them cheaper as I stated above)

2) Video of how to replace Ram Memory in an Acer Aspire One,

Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
mark each compartment for the area the screws come out of.

A LOT of the screws look VERY similar to others, but they are NOT.
Do Not mix them up!
If a multi-compartment container is not available, you can use a clean egg carton in a pinch. Mark each egg holder.

HOW DO I install new memory in acer aspire L320

First step would be to lookup your system specs either in your manual or at the Acer website. See what RAM is compatible with your system. Once this is done purchase what you need. Open the case and you should see the RAM modules & slots. If you are replacing RAM you will need to remove the old first. If you are adding to empty slots just line it up properly and seat it in the open slots. Close the case and reboot. System should automatically recognize the new specs. Make sure you disconnect power and properly ground yourself before touching anything inside your case. Hope this helps.

Install new ram in Acer aspire L320?

Sorry- I have to disagree, One screw at the back releases the lid. Inside, the dvd/hdd sub-chassis has one screw holding it to a brass post on the mobo. Undo that, then lift the chassis slightly with it's plastic strap handle, so you can detach the two connectors from the SATA drive, and the ribbon cable to the DVD (careful you don't bust the latch).

Then the whole lump simply lifts out- and you can see the 2 memory cards. The one I've just looked at appears to have 2 x 512mb simms- so you could replace these with 2 x 1024mb DDR2 SDRAM simms, to give 2GB of ram, which is what Acer say is maximum.

Cheers- AL (Luton)

Opening side panel of acer aspire t180

You have done half the work toward the solution by removing the thumbscrews. The other half involves sliding a spring-loaded lever above the lower thumbscrew toward the bottom of the case. While the lever is slid toward the case bottom, push on the side panel in the same direction as the screws, i.e. toward the rear of the case. The side panel should slide just slightly, allowing you to then lift it off to access the inside. Note that when replacing the side panel, follow the above steps in reverse order.

When replacing the side panel, note that if the panel is not correctly replaced, the thumbscrews will not be able to be installed as the lock lever will not be set properly.

Acer 5720Z removing rear cover to access RAM

sure..be real careful with removing that..you may need to GENTLY pry that up, under the slot, that is on one side...make sure all screws are removed, or loosened..this may mean that your memory was NOT installed correctly in the first place(causing the door to jam)..

Or, you may have the magnetic memory(just kidding)
