Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Suddenly the lens began going in and out and now it is stuck halfway out. Someone suggested banging it to unsyick it but that did not help. Our local camera shops do not work on Sony cameras. Any ideas?

Hi,

The Lens may start going in and out when the Lens mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the issue, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required. For getting the unit serviced, you have to contact the Sony Authorized service centre or factory service centre. You can contact Sony here.

Thanks for using FixYa.

If the lens is stuck, you might have to get a new camera. Or you can take it to a local repair shop. Or you can look it up online

Hi

You should never hit or bang your camera on something to try and fix it. Anybody that tells you to do it is wrong; you'll be lucky if you don't damage your camera further... as it seems as you have done here.

Your lens was stuck, probably had a speck of dirt in the gears and now it turns on but it can't focus. You've either damaged the fine focus gears, or dislodged them, or managed to disconnect a cable by banging the camera.

You need to open up the lens, clean out the gears and rebuild the lens assembly; this is what you should have done in the first place.

If you don't want to do it yourself you can find a shop that will do it for a reasonable price if you look hard enough. DONT pay somebody $100 or more to do it for you!!

I own an AFFORDABLE digital camera repair business, we can clean and repair your camera lens for you for $45 if you don't need the lens replaced.

If you would like to use our services we would be happy to help.

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

Lens error! please help!

Hi

No I don't have any quick and cheap solutions; the 'bang it on the table till it works' solution some people will tell you to do is pretty quick and cheap but you will probably just damage your camera further.

We are a digital camera repair business, we can probably fix the lens for you. We have gotten so many at this time that we have taken the lens repair package off the website, but I think its still up in our eBay store. (ebay ID is DARNTOOTHYSAM)

The price for the lens repair is $55, all you do is make the purchase online then send us the camera with our repair form from our website and we will take care of it.

Recently my digital camera dropped on the ground while the lens was out readyto take a photo.

you will either have to send it to pentax for repair or a local camera repair company.

I don't know any repair places in new Zealand. so you will have to ask around local camera shops or look online for a place.

I had a Lens ERR a year ago and after a while it started working again on it's own... that error means that something (dust particle, etc) is stuck in the lens; you can try to clean it with a brush or blower; or take it to a repair shop... it's a pretty simple thing to resolve.

The lens is stuck

my daughter sat on ours while it was on and the lens wouldn't retract. I tried the banging repair suggested for a stuck lens. After quite a few tries, it got the lens to retract when turned off but it wouldn't stay out when on, so i grabbed the lens and gently pulled it all the way out while it was on and it worked! (phew!)

Casio lens stuck

I noticed that the lens was sticking out on center. After pushing it a little, it clicked and then everything worked fine again. I hope that's what happens for your camera, too.

Lens will not retract

I had exactly the same problem and I went to this site and got my solution. I banged the bottom of the camera with my palm and turned it off and on at the same time. On about the fourth bang the lens retracted and cleared the error codes. I know, "Caveman Maintenence" but it worked. Can't hurt to try...
