Question about Westinghouse Dishwashers

1 Answer

Re: Westinghouse WDF901 Dishwasher On loading dishwasher (not overloaded & checked all clear inside etc) on turning power on, it keeps saying it is currently in a Wash cycle, therefore I cannot get dishwasher to start a new wash. The buttons won't let me change anything - have turned on/off several times to clear, but keeps showing it is currently in a wash mode. Help please - how do I clear this to start a new wash ?? Regards, Maureen

I have had the same problem. Make sure you close the door slowly and make sure it clicks into place.

Haier dishwasher keeps tripping electricity for the plugs for last few days. Is it a power source issue or a dishwasher problem

You can turn off the breaker that is supplying power to the dishwasher, and pay close attention to whatever else no longer has Power such as light fixtures, plugs, etc. it is quite possible that the circuit may be overloaded (too many devices on that breaker) your problem may only occur when all of the devices are being used at the same time.

I want to add an under-counter auxiliary water heater to my 15A dishwasher circuit. I need to install some sort of relay to cut out the water heater when the dishwasher is being run, to avoid overloading...

If I understand correctly you have 15 amp breaker with 14gauge wire.
Total watt capacity of 15 amp breaker is recommended at 80% rated load = 12 amps

You want to connect two appliances to same 15 amp line.
1) You have 6 amp Dishwasher that draws 720 Watts
2) You have under the counter water heater with 1500 Watt element that draws 12.5 amps.
3) Combined load is 18.5 Amps and 2220 Watts, approximately
So you do not want dishwasher and water heater turned on at same time.
Makes good sense.

Solutions:
> Easiest thing would be to put water heater on ordinary wall switch located inside sink cabinet.
Back when garbage disposals first came out, garbage disposal switch was inside sink cabinet. You opened cabine door and flipped the switch.
> Next solution would be to put water heater on a timer located under the sink. There are different timers. In-wall timers and box-type

In-wall timer would need relay/contactor
A battery operated timer like the ST01C would not need to be reset after power outage

Here are instruction pages for selecting and installing the relay/contactor.
http://waterheatertimer.org/H230A.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/Install.html
Add a comment any time.

Box-type timer like T101 120Volt timer. This timer needs no relay/contactor.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101
Timer needs to be reset after power outage, but operates on ordinary 120V power, and is simple to install.

> There is no easy way to wire the dishwasher and water heater together so one is certain not to operate when other is turned on. There are likely electronic control panels for that project. But since you know the hours when dishwasher is likely to be ON, then set water heater timer to turn OFF during those hours. Water inside tank will stay hot for a couple hours, so there is no loss.

It sounds like you are a solid electrician.

Our F & P dishdrawer keeps coming up with f1 and a picture of a spanner have tried turning the machine of at the switch for 24hr but is still doing it

Water has collected at the base of the dishwasher under the drawer.
This triggers a flood switch and causes the F1 error.

Turn the mains power off and extend the drawer out as much as possible. Take towels to dry the base from inside. Also use hair dryer ot dry out the flood switch mounted at the base.

Turn the power on and see if there is any difference. The cause of water collection could be many. Foam in detergent or kink in drain hose or drawer door gasket leaking etc.

This seems to be a drainage problem, obviously.

There may be some food debris in the drain tube where it connects to the drain pipe. It would be easy to detach and do a visual check, and see if you can clear the clog. Also, try to see if the drainage hose is kinked in anyway that would restrict water flow. If that doesn't work, please don't hesitate to message back with more details!!

Not cleaning dishes clearly

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the Water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues.

Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.

To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks. Also make sure that the water is draining and is not accumulated in the dishwasher, if it is in dishwasher then check for clogged drain hoses and drain pump.

Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwasher.

Please do rate this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Our BDW 13 keeps tripping our fuse board

your cicuit is overloaded. hook the DW up to its own cicuit, or at least one that will not overload it. Circuits should not be loaded to more than 80% of their capacity. 15 Amp load no more than 12 amp.
when motors/pumps start they use the most load or power, or when your DW turns on the heat.

Dishwasher not emptying

either the pump is not working or the discharge hose is clogged, if you have an air gap on the sink take the hose off and hold it down see if the water comes out by tself if so the pump is bad if not the drain is colgged take out the bottom tray you will need a 1/4 inch nut driver take the plastic screen cover plate off clear it of debris, there is a sharp metal blade in there so be careful, after cleaning it out turn on to rinse and see if it drains if not you will need to either replace the dishwasher or the pump, dollar for dollar new dishwasher time

Make sure there's power getting to the dishwasher. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power. Sometimes the power cord disconnects at the dishwasher (inside the junction box, behind the bottom kick panel), if this is the case, the wiring must be repaired or replaced.
