Question about ViewSonic VX2235WM Monitor

2 Answers

I am attempting to use a Viewsonic VX2235wm 22 inch LCD monitor with my Alienware m11x Rx2 laptop. (4g DDR3, Core i3 520um, Windows 7 64-bit) as an extension ofn my desktop. Naturally I would like to use the Viewsonic monitor at it's highest resolution of 1680x1050, to compensate for the m11x's 11 inch screen while I'm docked and at home. I establish the 'Extended monitor setup' through a DVI-HDMI adapter connecting the laptop to the monitor, and can display the extended desktop at resolutions below 800x400. When I attempt to display higher resolutions, the monitor displays a blue box, saying Out of Range, then listing: H.Frequency: 65 KHZ and V.Frequency: 60 HZ. Please help, and thank you!

Right, so I'm the fellow who posted this so recently. I should've mentioned that the monitor runs perfectly fine using the same DVI cable with my desktop computer, for which it is the sole display.

Your monitor probably runs at 60-65khz only(if not adjust the monitor to its highest khz), so make sure the res your trying to accomplish has a matching output.

It sounds to me that your monitor works fine with both computers but the monitor has trouble reaching a higher res on laptop? Are you duplicating the laptop monitor or are you extending your desktop to the Viewsonic?

Does it do the same if you hook it up to the desk top PC?
Common problem in this VX series are due to bad DC filter caps which can cause a lot of starnge symptom, see pictures here:

The power supply may not be stable enough to handle higher resolution mode.

My Alienware M11X R2's screen broke completely off. I thought I could just hook up an HDMI cable and use the base with a monitor but it keeps beeping... and the video wont show up on the monitor.

Do you mean that the hinges broke and the screen is no longer attached to the laptop. I googled ' Alienware M11X R2 screen' and one of the first results is a story from PC World which contains:

"Dell will repair broken hinges on any Alienware M11x system for any R1 or R2 customer worldwide regardless of warranty status," wrote Dell's John Blain, in a blog entry on the company's website.

It appear the monitor has been connected to another system unit than the default. disconnect the entire systems and reconnect altogether, restart the computer to allow the unit to recognise the new monitor. should diplay possible soluiton, else follow the instrcutions below

1.locate the control panel where the options of systems setting is displyed.
2. a click should dispaly a list among which is device speaker options
3. the computer speaker could be updated by clicking to install drivers or codes acquirable from the network.

alternately
1. click on the hardware icons located after locating and clicking into control panel.
2. on the list of add delete hardware provides the option to attempt to delete the speaker codes
3. a delete of the speaker drivers on system restart would prompt the user to update the speakers. A click on the prompt should acquire the necessary installation kit patches from an internet connection if any.

I just reinstalled windows 64 bit home on my alienware m11x. I did so because an explosion of trojans made my cpu inoperable. I have downloaded the drivers supplied by dell support, but I would like to get...

There are two ways to do that.

1. Turn on the computer press on Ctrl + F11 while the screen shows the Dell logo. However, if the recovery partition has been deleted during your previous installation it will no longer work.
2. Use the disc that came with your computer labeled, Recovery Disc.

Please let me know if this has been helpful. Thank you and regards.

I have a viewsonic 22'' (I think) model VX2235wm. It has both digital and analog connections in back. Can I use both -- one going to one PC, the other to a 2nd PC -- and switch between them?

yes you can. If you need further assistance on how to do it please let me know though its as simple as switching inputs with the buttons on the monitor.
Thank you,
