Question about Epson Stylus DX4450 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I also have a an Epson that takes the #69 cartridge. Whether or not I solve your issue, I suggest you call Epson and tell them about this issue. What you think and a piece of your mind. I've done it and they replaced my printer. I called their consumer relations relations and explained to them that I have owned Epson Printers for years which is true. That any time of the day or night I can find a 10 your old Epson dot matrix printer on Ebay, get it in the mail and it would work perfectly and be more dependable then what I have sitting in front of me. I would remind them that they have a great deal of experience building printers and ask them to restore my faith in them.
Now that I have soap boxed, lets get down to your printer.
The Epson has a circuit board installed in every cartridge itself. It is designed to shut down the printer when it is out of ink and to thwart any attempts to refill it. Your detection system is obviously malfunctioning.
This is what I would do, for what it is worth it sometimes works.
Using the Epson maintenance utility to change cartridges I would do the following:
1 Remove the cartridge
2 Remove all the rest of the cartridges
3 With a strong flashlight, look inside where the spring contact that the cartridges fit against in the head and brush out any possible debris you can find with an old toothbrush. You may want to put a small amount of rubbing alcohol or vodka (expensive rubbing alcohol) on the brush and wipe it over the contacts lightly. DON'T USE COTTON SWAB OR PAPER TOWEL AS PAPER WILL EASILY GET LODGED INTO THE MACHINE.
4 Use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to remove any oily residue that may be on your four cartridges. JUST WIPE ONCE AND DRY WITH CLEAN PAPER TOWEL IMMEDIATELY.
5 INSTALL ALL FOUR CARTRIDGES INTO THE MACHINE.
6 RUN THE REST OF THE INSTALL UTILITY DOING RECHARGE AND CLEANING ACTIONS AS USUAL.
Tell me what happened.
I have had it work when I have removed all four cartridges, even though I am only changing one of them.
I hope this has helped.
