Question about Estate TGDS840JQ Gas Dryer

1 Answer

I have an Estate TGDS840JQ1 gas dryer and it does not get hot at all. It does tumble. i have read some of your possible solutions, how hard is it to remove the back to examine for a bad fuse or how difficult is it to replace the ignitor? I am a single mom with not alot of extra funds right now. If I can do it, I will. If it is something that needs to be done by a professional, thats different. Either way, its probably cheaper to fix then to buy a new one.

First check to see that the gas burner is "trying to come on but doesnt". Pull the little plastic cover off and look through the little hole in the front as it starts. If you see the ignitor repeatedly glow then go off without lighting the gas, the problems with the burner (or you have no gas). If not, you can easily take the back off and check the fuses shown hereI have an Estate TGDS840JQ1 gas dryer and it does - sagacious.jpg

Check the fuse on the blower housing.
To get to the heating element on most of these dryers you remove the back dust cover: whirlpool%20dryer.jpg 1. Hi Limit (small limit upper right hand side of this pic) the most frequent problem if dryer RUNS but no heat. 2. Heater assembly. 7. Control thermostat(s). 5. Estate Gas Dryer Model TGDS840JQ1 It runs, but no heat. All the ducts and lint trap are clear, and there is airflow out the back- just no heat. I can't see or hear any indication of igniting. Where do I go...

HI. Normally, the gas valve coils will be the most common problem spot in thsi situation but, i recommend inspecting the following areas as well to address this issue.

1. Gas valve coils
Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.

2. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

3. Igniter
Igniter may burn out or break. Replace the igniter if found defective.

Note: Igniters are very fragile and break easily. It is recommended to handle the igniter only touching the ceramic part of it (usually white in color).

4. Flame sensor (or radiant heat sensor)
Replace the sensor (located near the igniter) if found defective.

Replace any failed component.

Whirlpool Estate Dryer TGDS840JQ1 dryer runs but does not heat up to dry the clothes.

when you say heat up is it at least getting warm...
you may have a igniter gone bad or your thermostat may have failed... your igniter is what has to ignite the gas to burn to make it hot. If its electric then your heating coil has failed and needs to be replaced
