Volcanoes are formed by tectonic plate friction. Asplate rub against each other, they form cracks, gaps, and voids, that can fill with the magma in the earth's mantle. AThis magma is under extremely high pressure, and any crack or gap that it can find, it will use. As a volcano forms above the surface, there will be a ***** or cone that forms above the volcano, and as presure builds underneath, the volcano grows, sometimes to very high altitudes, before it ever eruprts. Sometimes, it will die out, losing it's pressure, and go dormant. Ther is NO SUCH THING as a DEAD vocalno, they just are dormant for longer periods of time. Some of the volcanoes here on earth have erupted alot, others have only erupted sporadically, but If it eprupts even once, then eventually it will erupt again.

Why do volcanos erupt

Volcanoes erupt because of density and pressure. The lower density of the magma relative to the surrounding rocks causes it to rise (like air bubbles in syrup). It will rise to the surface or to a depth that is determined by the density of the magma and the weight of the rocks above it. As the magma rises, bubbles start to form from the gas dissolved in the magma. The gas bubbles exert tremendous pressure. This pressure helps to bring the magma to the surface and forces it in the air, sometimes to great heights.

When did Pinatubo form?

pinatubo was formed in 2 stages. The ancestral Pinatubo started to form about 1 million years ago, and built an andesite - dacite stratovolcano whose center was at the same location as today. Remnants of this precessor are seen in the ancient 3.5x4.5 wide caldera. Ancient Pinatubo had a number of flank vents, that formed the domes of Mount Negron, Mount Cuadrado, Mataba, Bituin plug, and the volcanic plug of Tapungho.
Deep erosion in the Sacobia, Porac, Marimla, and Porac River valleys, and weathering of the lavas suggests that activity of the ancestral volcano ended several tens of thousands of years (or more) before the caldera-forming eruption and initial growth of the modern Pinatubo (ca. 35,000 years ago).

How was mauna loa formed

OK, the whole Hawaiian Island chain is volcanic, formed from volcanoes which rose in turn from the ocean floor, erupted, formed an island around, then became less and less active in turn as the whole island chain moves away to the NW at 2 - 4 in per year.

Mauna Loa is one of 5 volcanoes which have formed the main island Hawaii. It is still active, and is a wide flattish volcano 4169 metres above sea level (13 679 ft).

It probably started erupting under the sea about 700 000 yrs ago, and rose above the surface about 400 000 yrs ago. It is a young volcano in geological terms as the oldest rocks found on its surface are 200 000 yrs old.

There is heaps more info here, but take care as some teachers do not like you to quote Wikipedia as a reference.

How do volcanoes erupt

Very simply: There s a layer of melted rock, called magma, below the Earth\'s surface. That magma is under tremendous pressure from gasses created when the rock melts, from the growth of the rock when it melts, and from the melting of other rock around it. When the pressure on the magma gets high enough, some part of the "pipe" it\'s in - that is the Earth\'s surface - breaks and the magma bursts out. As it escapes it cools, forming a mound. That mound is a volcano.

Give the economic importance of volcanoes

When volcanoes erupt, lava flows out, right? Then when lava hardens, extraneous igneous rocks are formed. Oh! Also, volcanic eruptions also gives birth to another land from like hills!!
