How do you change the power level and what are they called?

Not all microwaves have the option to change power output but if the do, Full Power, Half Power and Defrost. The Defrost setting provides half power for about 15 seconds and then pauses for about 30 seconds before giving another 15 seconds and carries on doing this until the timer ends. It can also be used for keeping food warm once cooked.

GE JEM25GY Spacemaker died. No lights and won't turn on. Power from recepticle is OK. Shall I just buy a new one. Probably had this one for at 15 years. Thanks

Jerald,
It may just be a blown fuse. At 15 years old it might be a good idea to consider a new one but replacing the fuse is not real expensive and fairly easy to do. Unplug your microwave and turn it around and remove the screws holding cover on and then remove the cover. Look for where the power cord goes into the back of the unit and follow the black wire from the cord to where it ends. It should stop an either a circuit board or a fuse holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as what you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped on one of the silver collars on each end of the fuse. Good luck!

How to find fuses on my GE Spacemaker XL microwave model# JVM1340 WW

First thing is make sure you unplug the power cord. Turn the microwave around and remove the screws that hold the cover on. Remove the cover and look for where the power cord goes through the back of the unit. Follow the black wire coming from the power cord and that will take you to where the fuse is located. It might be on a small circuit board or mounted in a fuse holder or it might have an inline holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped into one of the collars on the fuse. Good luck!

Replace power cord

Definately replace power cord. I work with these microwaves all the time and if you don't it will cause a chain reaction and the fuses will explode into tiny sparks. This is coming from an expert

GE Microwave - Power Cord Appears to be Dead

Most microwave ovens are equipped with an internal fuse. This is typically located where the power cord enters the cabinet. The cabinet will have to be opened to verify the fuse.

The magnetron is not directly attached to the power source, it has to be stepped up in voltage significantly, either through a transformer or inverter.

It is usually best to have professional tech check the fuse for operation. Most shops will do this for a small fee if you drop the unit off yourself.

You may have a blown internal fuse. While I would recommend that you take the unit to a qualified repair center, you can do a little troubleshooting on your own. You''ll need to unplug the unit, remove the outside cover and follow the line cord and you should find the fuse.

Replace it with the EXACT same value that was labeled on the original fuse. You'll probably be able to find a replacement fuse at any Radio Shack store or hardware store.

Replace the cover and plug the unit back in. Hopefully nothing was damaged and the unit will play again.

If the unit does not come back on, then there is a possibility that the unit's power supply has failed.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

    Good luck!
