Question about Canon PIXMA MP150 All-In-One InkJet Printer

My Canon Pixma is brand new just pulled it out the box and plugged it in and it is telling me error 5100 what do i need to do?

Check the ink cartridges. Make sure that the wrapping is removed from the cartridge and that the tape over the breather hole (top of the cartridge is removed). Reseat the cartridges.

Remove the cartridges. Inspect the cartridges to ensure all packaging is removed. Reinstall the cartridges. Press the ON/OFF button for 2 seconds. Unplug the printer and wait 10 seconds. Check the printer for any obstructions including packaging materials.

Remove the scanner cover. Open the lid - check for paper that is stuck; these can be very small pieces, so look carefully. Plug the printer back in and power it on. If that does not solve the problem you will have to contact service or seller depending on your warranty and replacement policies on vendor.

Canon tells you to unplug the machine without the head in for 30 minutes.
Replug into outlet and cross fingers./
If that does not work you may need a new printer

Pixma MP160 has service error 5100


5100 says the carriage is not free to move all the way left and right, or there is ink or grease on the encoder strip, the plastic strip behind the carriage assembly. You can clean the strip with a Q-tip just damp with water.

error 5100, this error appears and the problem is your cartridge, please double check your cartridge is connect properly and if it still have the errors change another cartridge, a new one...

Canon Pixma Mini 260 - Error Code 5100


I'll presume you are confidant you have installed the LATEST drivers and software according to provided installation instructions.

I'll tell you though, I think in all likelyhood you did. Why? Because per Canon technical documenation, error codes 5xxx thru 9xxx displayed on the device's LCD have only a two pronged solution troubleshooter:
  1. SOLUTION 1: Reset the device (refer to a previous post of mine for detailed instructions).

  2. SOLUTION 2: The mini260 may require repair.
OPTIONS (if solution 1 doesn't work):
  1. Since it's new, contact the vendor who sold you the printer and insist upon an immediate exchange. As always, whenever possible, get yourself out of the middle and let the vendor work with the manufacturer (Canon) to resolve.
  2. Contact Canon's toll-free technical support:
Call 800-828-4040 (Mon-Fri 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. EST, excluding holidays), OR ...

After all, it wouldn't hurt to let their tech-rep have a crack at it, but more importantly, corroborate/confirm it's in need of repair (potentially adds one more bullet to your chamber).
