My zerojam shredder, which is about 2 years old, is jammed with paper. My husband is trying to take it apart and could use a diagram and words of advice.

My shredder is beyond switching between REVERSE and Auto position. There is a big wad of paper stuck between the teeth in the middle. The edges have been torn off, so I can't grab it.

I need to take it apart so I can get to the teeth and pick out the paper. I have done this before with a smaller shredder.

When undoing the screws, I found a switch that is in the way. I believe it sends a signal indicating whether the door is open or closed. I'm not sure how to undo this and then replace it. That's why a diagram would be helpful, so I'll know what to disconnect and then reconnect.

    Thanks

Based on your suggestion to use vegetable oil for oiling the shredder, I soaked the wad of paper stuck between the teeth very liberally with oil, and let it sit for 1/2 hr. Then I used a serrated knife to cut away the softened paper and removed it with tweezers.

It unjammed the shredder and it works OK, except that it is much louder than before.

    Thank you.

I was able to unjam it by softening the wad of paper in the teeth with vegetable oil, letting it sit for 1/4 hr and then cutting the softened wad of paper with a serrated knife. It works but much more noisy.

Hello,

You do not need to take the shredder apart to clear the paper jam. There are more easy and convenient ways to clear paper jam on your shredder.

Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds. Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled. See oiling instructions below.

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

  1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
  2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
  3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
  4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
  5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three times.
If you are not satisfied with the above and still want to take apart the shredder, then it means you have to unscrew all the screws hold the shredder together. Note that there might be some screws under the sticker of the shredder. Once all the screws are removed, taking the shredder apart wouldn't be any problem.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

My Royal Crosscut Paper Shredder, Model # PCUA:16326H-FE will not turn on. Is there something that I can do?

Paper shredders have a main switch and a couple of safety switches, the first of these is the one buried in the slot so the cutters are only moving when sheet paper is inserted and this switch has a very light return spring and flimsy linkage that easily jammed with paper scraps or easily displaced or sometimes it gets broken. The other switch prevents operation unless the unit is standing squarely on a container. Now my shredder is a few years old the unit has to be repositioned a couple of times before the latter switch engages.

The units benefit from being taken apart periodically and the buildup of dust and paper sraps cleaned out and maybe a brief spray of a dry lubricant around the moving parts.

Omnitech 14 sheet shredder is jammed and won't take paper less than year old tried to call omnitech support and get no answer just recording that they are closed any ideas

Unplug it, open it up and clear the jam, reassemble and give it a try, and try not to shred too many pages at once and make sure that you empty the lower part so it doesn't pick up already shredded material and jam up again.

Can you take apart a fellowes PS-12C

FELLOWES SHREDDER
In case of a paper jam , which may occur if the shredder is pushed beyond its specified capabilities, press the control switch to the off [O] position and empty the basket if full. Then:
1) Press and hold control switch in reverse [R] position and attempt to back paper out of shredder.
2) If shredder jams in reverse mode, press control switch to automatic [I] position and attempt to continue shredding operation.
3) If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between reverse [R] and automatic [I] positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through shredder.
If you are unable to clear the jam using this method, turn off and unplug the shredder; remove the wastebasket from cabinet and carefully remove any paper extending below the cutting cylinders; empty the wastebasket; insert wastebasket and repeat jam clearing procedure.

OM01288 zerojam shredder continuously runs when power (auto) is on but stopps and goes into reverse when paper is inserted.

There are two phototransistors and LED pairs in the CD and paper paths. They detect paper and turn on the motor. Clean these sensor/LEDs. If cleaning the sensor/LEDs does not fix the problem, then you might need to replace them. Do not work on the circuitry while the shredder is plugged in. It is NOT isolated from the power line.

My royal paper shredder is jammed. How do I unjam the shredder?

Normally try to run it in reverse while pulling the paper back out to assist the motor. If it won't even run in reverse then you will have to take it apart to manually clear the jam.

Cuts out after 1 second & red light comes on

The red light typically means either something isn't installed right in the shredder head, or there's a paper jam. Did you recently take the shredder apart? If not, there's probably some jammed paper in there somewhere.

Red light on as well as green, what is the red light

The red LED can mean one of two things -- either the shredder head is not assembled correctly (did you take the shredder apart recently?) or there is a paper jam inside the machine. Sometimes the jammed paper is far down and hard to see.

Huge paper jam ( piece of a checkbook)

Throw it out and buy a new one! staples won't replace this unit and your gonna have to take it apart and clean the gears.
Also tell your employees to stop reversing the drive gears with paper inside the bucket it only reverses the flow and jams the unit.
I would buy a cross cut shredder next time.
Hope that helps.
