Question about Ovens

1 Answer

My oven was working fine yesterday and now the bar underneath in the bottom oven glows but no fire starts. I don't have any $ to pay for this to get repaired and I definitely can't afford to replace a double oven. My husband says he can replace parts if he knows what the problem is. Can anyone help? The ignitor should be real bright (hard to look at), if it is dim orange it is weak and a weak ignitor won't open the safety valve. This video explains how it works: Silicone carbide ignition

Bottom oven does not start

I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM THIS WEEK. MY REPAIRMAN TOLD ME THE GLOW BAR IGNITOR ARE BAD TO GO BAD. EVEN IF IT STILL GLOWS IT PROBABLY ISN'T PUTTING OUT ENOUGH GLOW TO OPEN UP THE SAFETY GAS VALVE. I THOUGHT MY PILOT LIGHT MIGHT BE OUT, BUT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ONE FOR THE OVEN/BROILER IN THE BOTTOM OF STOVE, BUT IT DID HAVE ONE FOR THE TOP BURNERS.
YOU CAN WATCH SOME YOU TUBE VIDEOS OF HOW TO FIX THE GLOW BAR IGNITOR FOR THE OVEN AND LEARN MORE--HOPE THIS HELPS..

Whirlpool oven wont start, is there away to light the pilot?

You don't say what model you have. That being said, I highly doubt it uses a pilot light. It most likely uses a glow bar igniter to ignite the gas. Take the bottom of the oven cavity off (remove the racks and you'll see a couple screws in the back on the bottom. Remove those and the bottom of the oven cavity should lift up).

Once you have the bottom cover off, turn on your oven and watch the glow bar. If it glows bright white, it's good and your gas valve is most likely bad. If it doesn't glow at all, or it's not very bright, or it has one bright white spot on it and the rest of it looks a little yellowish orange, then you need to replace the glow bar igniter.

Anyway, that's where I'd start.

Good luck!

Oven will not light ,broiler and top of range light fine

the ignitor is not working its bad,you should see a bright orange glow below the oven base just as when you start the broiler look up at the top of the oven and watch this ignitor glow before ignition, the bottom should do the same, you can also see this from the back side of the range at the base,if you don't use the broiler you can use that ignitor for the oven ignitor as these ignitors are identical, but then you will have no broiler

GE gas oven--Spectra--the oven does not heat--the broiler works, however

Most common problem is the glow bar ignitor. Lift off the bottom panel of the oven and remove. (Some have two screws holding the panel at the back of the panel.) Turn the oven on and see if the glow bar glows.
Even if the glow bar glows doesn't mean that it is working 100%. An amp probe is need to see if the glow bar is drawing the proper amperage to allow the gas valve to open allowing gas to come to the burner. The glow bar should draw about 3.5 to3.8 amps. If drawing more or less than this, replace the glow bar ignitor.
I hope this helps.

The oven burner will not ignite.

Because the glowbar is glowing does not necessarily make it good.
Turn off the gas to the stove. Remove the oven racks. Remove the bottom oven pan. Remove the flame spreader. This gives you access to the glow bar and gas valve.
Put a clamp on amp meter around one wire of the glowbar. Turn the oven control on to BAKE.
If the glowbar reads 3 amps or less, replace the glowbar ignitor.
If the glowbar reads good, check the burner tube for a white ash buildup. It can be cleaned with a wire brush. Look closely near the glowbar section of the burner.
Check all the wire connections for the gas valve.
If the glowbar is good and the ash deposits are gone and the oven still will not ignite, the next step is to replace the gas safety valve.

Oven not working

hey, turn the oven on and see if you see an orange glow at the bottom. this would be your glow coil. exactly like the broil. if you do, take an amp probe and check the amp draw to it. it should be over 2.9 amps. if no glow or low amps replace and start baking. enjoy

Glow bar??

it sounds to me like you are on the right tract yes you can change this item pretty easily after you remove the covers it just plugs in just follow your wires and do not touch the new glow bar with bare hands use a clean rubber glove like doctors wear to hold it (the oils on your hand will cause it to go bad faster.although rule of thumb is to replace the glow bar and gas valve at the same time you may get lucky and fix the problem with just the glow bar.after you replace the bar (if it does not work the problem would be the gas valve>NOT RECOMMENDED TO DO IF YOU HAVE NO MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE

Hotpoint oven glowbar not working

My oven glowbar stopped working christmas morning. Yesterday we bought a whirlpool brand (igntr-oven #4342528) because it is twenty something dollars cheaper then GE. My husband installed it today. The only difference is you have to splice the wires (it comes with everthing you need) The first time he put it in it did not work because he had the wires backwards. He switched the wires and now its working fine.
My oven is two years old also.
