NO,your transmission is probably ok!! Inside your top end of agitator are these 4 plastic parts called "dogs" they need to be replaced. To be 100% sure ,do this first,Fill upthe machine on small load and while its washing look to see if the bottom end of agitator is moving back and forth ,if it is replace the dogs.In some machines you have to change the upper part of agitator. If the agitator is not turning at the bottom than, remove the top of agitator cover so you can get a extended half inch socket in to it and pull the agitator up and check the transmission splines. If they are smooth and cannot grab the agitator than your trans, is bad.

SOURCE: kenmore elite HE4T front load washing machine standing water

This problem can be caused by either a leaking water inlet valve, or a condition known as "siphoning". Since you just recently moved, I would make sure you don't have a siphoning problem, first. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587481-prevent_washer_siphoning

Although siphoning normally refers to a constant drain problem where a washer has problems maintaining the proper water level, it can also lead to problems where the drain line will back up into the washer.

Now, if you follow the advice in the link and determine this is NOT caused by siphoning, I would suspect that you have a water inlet valve that is leaking. A tell-tale sign will be water trickling down the fill tube in the rubber door bellow. The water inlet valves have a diaphragm that is controlled by an electric solenoid. Sometimes the valve becomes clogged with sediment or deposits, causing the diaphragm not to close properly. If you live in an area that has hard water, or use well water, you may have hard water deposits or rust build up in the valve. You may be able to correct the problem by removing the valve and cleaning it with some distilled vinegar. You can remove the valve by following these steps:

1. Unplug the washer and turn off water supply at the taps.
2. Disconnect the water inlet hoses.
3. Remove washer top panel by removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel slides back, then off.
4. The inlet valve (this is what your water inlet hoses connect to) will be located in the left rear of the washer (facing from the front). Remove the dispenser hose(s) from the valve and the electric connections. Remember how the electrical connections are removed. They should be color coded. One is for HOT, one is for COLD.
5. Remove the mounting screws that hold the assembly in place.

Once you have the inlet valve removed, you can place it in some distilled vinegar and let it soak. Just don't submerge the electrical connections. If this does not correct your problem, replace the valve. Searspartsdirect.com and repairclinic.com are two notable web sites that I have frequently used. Just type in your complete model number to begin the parts search.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

SOURCE: washer unbalanced on final spin, cannot stop the unbalance

Hi Sparky,
The reason it's out of balance is because the skate plate shoes are worn out and need to be replaced. You'll have to access the washer in order to do this. There's a video available that shows how to do it.

After you have opened up the washer you'll see that the tub is sitting on a three legged pedestal. The shoes are in between the skate plate and the top of the pedestal. Here's a picture (and part number) to illustrate...

bc62875.jpg

Do one shoe at a time by lifting the skate plate off of the pedestal about an inch or so and wedging it there (I use a hammer handle as a wedge). The shoes simply snap into place, so the old ones will have to be snapped out of place first. Use another hammer and tap the shoes out of their sockets from underneath.

NOTE! ---> When you place the new shoe into its' place DO NOT try to snap it in!!! (if you do, you'll break it) Just let it rest in it's place for now. Remove your wedge and allow the full weight of the tub to sit on it. Then move on to the next shoe and repeat.

After all 3 shoes have been replaced it's time to snap them in completely. Do this from the top of the tub. Using your body weight, press down on the tub from above on all three corners (where the shoes are located). This will apply even pressure to the top of the shoe and keep it from breaking. You should have all 3 snapped in now. Use a flashlight and look underneath to verify (you should see the tabs of the shoes poking all the way through the pedestal).

Now all that's left is to rebuild the washer cabinet and start some laundry!

SG

p.s. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but this job can be done easily within an hour and the parts only cost ~$12.00!

SOURCE: Balance spring fell off washing machine. Where

Check the Sears parts site for diagrams of all the major components. Replace the model number shown (11020802990) with your model number (found on cabinet when you open the lid)

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=11020802990

Look at the diagram for the machine base and you should see the springs and where they connect.

Unbalanced load. I read somewhere the cure from the manufacturers is to remove the counterweight at the base of the machine and add springs to stabilize lateral movement. You could see the actual service matters bulletin if you paid the $500 subscription fee. LOL

Washer goes off balance so easily, no matter the size of the load, from towels to shirts. We checked the washing machine itself is level. It's so frustrating to have a small to medium load cause the basket...

The tub is out of alignment. The suspension springs are weak and must be tight, the tub must not shake,if so the dampers are faulty.
This suspension must be so rigid that it must not shake around freely . check the pulley arangement , the bearings at the bottom spindle, if out of balance. If there is any anomalies in this ddrive section it must be observed and checked.
A careful analysis is most important to having a first hand information.

Washer goes into unbalance mode

Check the springs and spring mounts,(might be broken or not on right), also could be something wrong with the balance switch (where the tub hits the switch). It could be mis aligned or defective. Check the springs first.
