Question about Plantronics Voyager 500A Deskphone Adapter for Voyager Series Bluetooth Headset [ Pla... Headset

1 Answer

I have half a dozen plantronics voyager 500a units, with HL10 headset lifters and 510 bluetooth headsets that do not work. All of these came from the Voyager 510s packs some time ago (with a different tech person in charge) and have been disconnected and dumped in a box. Issues: 1) Only two of the seven 500A units have the blue light appear on top - all the rest are red. What does the red light mean and how do I fix it? 2) None of the bluetooth headsets appear to connect to any of the 500a units. How do I 'pair' the headset to a 500a unit? I do have one complete working set, so I know how to connect everything and can tell if it is working or not.

I was searching for this today and happened to find the above on the plantronics website. It definitely frustrated me till I found out about how to put the base in pairing mode.

Any tips on the hand set setting for the phone. Everytime I do it, it lasts about a week and then is so loose the arm won't pick up the handset.

It sounds like your HL10 handset lifter is giving you problems. This link has a nice set-up video to help you.

Here's a couple of other reminders: Pay close attention to placement of lifter under the handset for proper fit and also how the tape sticks to the phone. Make sure the cord is plugged completely into the base of the wireless headset (needs a good contact). For height adjustment, medium and high work best (the low setting is pretty useless).

If you are using a Cisco phone you could probably plug the headset base into the phone. If it is not you will still need your lifter.

It sounds like the battery is no longer holding a good charge. There is no replacement battery for this headset. If you are using the original 510 headset you can replace it or pair a different bluetooth headset up to the 500A base. Just keep in mind if you decide on a different style of headset you will not be able to charge it in your base. I have included the link for the 510 replacement headset below.

Phone lifter not working. light on top of base not lit up

Try re-pairing the headset to the Plantronics 500A base unit, it sounds like the headset may have lost connection with the base. Here is the link for the pairing instructions:

Make sure that the Plantronics 500A base inteli-sensor switch is set to the number one setting (should be set on the one line, not the two line setting, on the right side of the 500A base unit). Also if you are using an EHS (Electronic Hook Switch) instead of an HL10 Handset Lifter, that could be the issue as well. The only other thing is to check the user guide for the hearing aid and make sure that there is not an "auto answer" setting that may need to be turned off. The handset lifter works, but no sound can be heard or received by either party

If you have a 510a base, then purchased a Plantronics Voyager Pro headset to replace your old headset, it won't work. Those are two different headsets. The Voyager Pro is not meant to work with the 510a base. The correct headset is this:

PHONE WILL NOT LIFT OFF HOOK EITHER WHEN YOU REMOVE THE EARPIECE FROM THE CHARGER OR PUSH THE CALL BUTTON

It could be that the battery inside the headset is worn out, or the headset needs to be re-paired to the base unit, or the lifter is worn out. If you manually remove the handset receiver from the phone, and you power on and activate the headset, does sound come through ? If so, it may be the lifter. If not, it could be one of the other two scenarios. Here is a link for the 510S / 500A user guide to troubleshoot.
