Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a maytag fridge that worked fine when I unplugged it and moved from TN to MS 6 months ago. It has been in storage for about 3 months. Now that I have plugged it up for the first time, it is not cooling. The freezer coils do not seem to be frosting up, but the compressor seems to be running. I have worked on these fridges back when they first came out, so I do have a decent understanding of what I am dealing with. Could it be in some sort of safety mode it went in after not running for so long or do I need to check the defrost cycle? Can you point me in the direction I need to be lookin into. I remember having to replace the compressor relay when I first got it 4 or 5 years ago. The compressor seems to be vibrating like it is running though. I appreciate any help I can get.

I suspect that the coils were damage during transit and you lost all of the freon, or the compressor seals dried out and lost all of the freon. You may have to get some one to service the freon as it takes special equipment to recharge the freon and reseal the coil.

Mark Remove the rear panel in freezer. Apply 3n1 oil to fan motor shaft and plug in and spin. I believe they left the freezer shut and the moisture froze the shaft on fan with rust. Once restarted you will be fine. Sea Breeze

Maytag Plus side by side refrigerator stops cooling. I unplugged it for 24 hours. When I plugg it back in, it works fine for about 2-3 months. Then it stops again and works fine after being unplugged for...

Take food out of the freezer, take out the racks, take off the back panel on the bottom/back ( probably 4-6 screws).. You will see a fan. If that fan has ice around it, then take it all off, chip it, hair dryer, what ever you want. Unplugging it for 24 hours is not enough for all of the ice to melt so it is probably taking a couple months to build back up. Generally this happens in a high humidity time of the year. It will probably happen again, do not freet. Just clean it again. I know one customer that had it happen two years in a row and that was about four years ago. He has had the unit (Maytag Plus side by side refrigerator) about 10 years and is just fine with it. Little inconvience, but sometimes that is the breaks in life. Good luck.... f067b6b.gif

Whirlpool Gold refrigerator is not making ice. Just stopped 3 days ago for no apparent reason. Fridge is 6 months old.

as long as the fridge is working properly the only thing that it could be would be the icemaker...the fridge should still be under factory warranty if it's 6 months old so they should cover it

Fridge storage

Definitely unplug it and leave the door open a couple inches for air to circulate. otherwise, when u need it again it will be contaminated with mildew.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Make sure your fan is working ,its located behind the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked (usually with ice). With out a fan you have no circulation but your freezer may look likes its working,it may last 3 days. Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open untill all traces of ice are gone this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

Refrigerator does not cool. Electrolux FRIGIDAIRE we moved into a new construction condo and all appliances were new we liveed in it for 6 weeks frige was fine but loud it is a model GLRT 13TEW4 serial...

If the unit is less than 1 year old call Frigidaire factory service. In the mean time check in the back of the freezer or in air channels for frost build-up. It may indicate a defrost problem or air leak. still best to have factory tech check if in warranty.

well being you purchased the uint 6 months ago you shoudl still have 6 months of warr left. did you try contacting sears, or any authorized maytag servicer to have a look at for you??? maybe a fan has gone bad, or theres a copper line thats causing a vibration through the unit.

Fridge and freezer not cold enough since we moved

remove the panel at the reaar of the freezer. you should have a full frost pattern on your evaporator (frosted not snow packed) and the fan should be running. if you do not have a full frost pattern then you have a sealed system leak. covered under the first five years of your warranty
