Question about Curtis Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hi. I have an old Curtis MPS2015 MP3 player and am trying to get into it via a laptop with Windows XP. The laptop picks up there's a device, but no driver. The player itself flashes the "Ready" screen briefly on and off. Any chance an XP driver might fix this?

Is there a way to put the device on shuffle mode?

  • There is a random setting rather than a shuffle mode. Same thing just a different name.
  • While in the play mode menu press "PREV/NEXT" to select the desired repeat mode ie.
  • Normal, Repeat One, Repeat All, Random, Random All, Preview.
  • You want to choose "Random" or Random All" depending on
  • Random - All music is played randomly until all songs have been heard.
  • Random All - All music will play randomly until you turn the MP3 player off.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

New battery fitted,just says loading???

If your mp3 turns on, then it means the battery is doing its job already to power the device on. Once it is showing loading and nothing else, then it means there is a problem somewhere and that has to do with a software problem. The solution to that is for you to connect your mp3 to a computer, then you copy all your songs to the computer, format the mp3 and restore the songs back on it, that way, your mp3 will be able to read the files on it and get pass the loading page. Hope this information was helpful.

Hi my mom has a curtis mps2015 and we dont know how to put music on it and we would like to know

the curtis mps2015 works as a mass storage device. Meaning when you plug it into a computer it will pop up as a drive letter. Such as C:\ would be your hard drive. If the unit is fuctioning correctly make sure the unit is unlocked and plugged into the computer. Open my computer and there will be a new storage device present. Open the storage device and you can then just drag and drop music onto the player.
if you need further assistance please feel free to followup with a comment. Thanks and have a great day-Midwest-tek

Software and drivers are only available for Windows XP, but may also work with 2000.

Check to see if the Philips Device Manager recognises the drive.

Note: the player does not show as a removable drive.

Also make sure you have Windows Media Player 10, and use this to try and transfer files with the Sync function.

I had the same problems you described and kind of stumbled my way through a solution. Hope this helps:

First you need either the driver cd or down load the drivers from the curtis website. Btw, there is also a pdf'd version of the procedures.doc that they are referring to (I too could not find after downloading the zip file wth the firmware update).

1. Hold down the on button on your MP3 player, and plug the player into your PC (via USB cable). Keep holding the on button until the found new hardware wizard comes up. (you can let go after that)

2. Check "Install from a list of specific location", click next.
3. Check "Include this location in search" and point to location of your driver files (either CD or folder that you saved them in). You only need to navigate to the "Driver" folder, and it should do the rest. Complete the rest of the New Hardware Wizard.

Here is where the document differs from my experience.
4. You will be prompted to restart your PC.

At this point it was all trial and error and I had to perform the first step again to get the MP3 player to re-connect to my pc.

5. Unplug player, hold start button down, plug back into PC.
6. Locate the firmware upgrade folder that you downloaded from the Curtis website. In this zip file, there is an app folder, open. In the app folder ther is an .exe file named "stupdaterapp.exe, double click on this .exe file.
7. The updater should pop up (Sigma Tel MSCN Firmware Download dialog box).
8. Check the "Format Data Area" box and click yes to the warning message that pops up.

It should start checking your mp3 player's firmware to compare to the updated version. If at any time the box under the format data area box says "Please connect device", unplug mp3 player and try plugging in again while holding the power button.
If the start button at the bottom of the box is NOT greyed out, then you are in good shape.

9. Click start and ensure that the MP3 player is not unplugged during this process.

This worked for me. Hope it does for you too.
