Question about Motorola 2 Pin Adapter 2-Way Radio

1 Answer

I have an older model Motorola sport 10X radio that has two pin connection. I tried several of the Motorola two pin accessories but the pins are too far apart. Are there any adapters available?

You might try contacting the people at http://www.wirelesspro.com/. They seem to have a variety of accessories for the Motorola Spirit and TalkAbout line of radios. The Sport 10X was a predecessor to the TalkAbout Distance DPS.

Otherwise, you might check with your local Radio Shack. It is possible they might have a 1-pin device which might work with the Sport 10X. On some audio devices the second pin is only for stability. The main thing which would make a difference is size, length and placement of rings.

Best regards.

I can program my distance radios by holding button then turning on.but that dose not work on the 10x

Correct. The 10X by Motorola uses Dip Switches for both frequency and tone codes. Both are under the battery tray. As you look at it, the left switch which has 4 dip switches is the frequency. On the right is the tone board with 8 switches. You can match the Motorola Distance radios if you have the settings. The 10X has a lot fewer frequencies and tones to choose from. Try this link:

Need battery tray for motorola sport 10 x

Unfortunately, the battery trays for this Sport 10X radio, Sport 7X and the later model TalkAbout Distance DPS are no longer available. In our repair facility we often get requests for these battery trays, and as a dealer we have not been able to get them for several years. Your best option is finding a used parts radio somewhere like ebay. In some instances the original tray can be fixed if you still have it.

Here is a link to the TalkAbout Distance manual
http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/manuals/DistanceDPS_User_Manual_E.PDF

The Sport 7 and Sport 10X were predecessors to the TalkAbout Distance. Most of the manual will be relevant to your radio. We will stay on the lookout for the Sport 7 manual and if found repost a solution here.

One primary different between the Sport 7 and the others mentioned is that it does not have a frequency eliminator code (PL, Private Line, etc.) It simply operates open squelch. If using this radio with other newer TalkAbout radios you would need to turn your Code to off (zero) on the newer units.

Where can I find a plug adapter for a 2 pin accessory going into a 1 pin radio? I have 1 pin talkabout type radio, but the accessory is a the two pin type. I found an adapter in the UK, but need something...

Try your local radio shack first. Then if they don't have one, there are several online headset/earpiece companies which might including Cobalt http://www.cobaltav.com/accessories.html; Klein Electronics http://www.headsetusa.com/adaptors/; David Clark http://www.davidclark.com/store/

You might also consider getting the correct audio device for the radio at the Motorola store http://www.store.motorola.com/mot/en/US/adirect/motorola;jsessionid=95A27CFFFEDE858D74CC8BB6B82C79C8.mot1?cmd=catDisplayStyle&entryPoint=adirect&catKey=601560&messageType=catDisplayStyle

Last ditch effort, if you don't care about your two-pin audio device ever having two-pins again, simply cut the one you don't need off. One should be a 3.5mm and the other 2.5mm. You'd have to gauge which one to keep.

Best regards.

Need an owner / operator manual for a motorola sport SS radio. does anyone know where i can find / download one?

The Sport SS, is very similar to the Sport 7X, Sport 10X and the TalkAbout Distance radios. We were unable to locate the exact manual for the SS model. Here is a link to the TalkAbout Distance radio which may help: http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/SCANNERS-F-R/Motorola_Distance%20UHF%20Porto_Manual.pdf

Check your antenna connections and coax for loose connections or damage. Also check your hand mic. See if the problem disappears if you turn on the radio without the mic attached. The two most common problems with a mobile radio are antenna and mic problems.

If you feel these are in order, it would be wise to have a tech look at the radio.
