Hi, and the answer is yes. All fuel powered type heaters will glow red, or bright orange. Example, a space heater that runs on #2 fuel oil, natural gas, gas, kerosene, ect. will glow this way, so do not be alarmed. This is normal.

My new the igniter does not glow red. It does have current as I touched it while the system was trying to ignite. Any thoughts

It HAS TO Glow Red!
No Glow, No Go!
The igniter is very Sensitive and Fragile!
You may have damaged it at install?
If you are getting proper voltage at heater igniter, then it should glow Red!
Note*** When heater has incoming electrical supply of 240v, the control module will send a Pulse of power. This is hard to read with a 'Digital' meter. An analog will read it better, the kind with a moving needle.

Ignition is locked out unit will not fire

Turn it off at the black toggle switch inside the front panel or turn it off at the breaker for 2-3 minutes
Then try again.
Check that flow is good, gas is on ect...
Is it saying lockout on the display?
If not then as you fire it up after cutting power keep the panel off and watch the ignition control red diagnostic light.
The blinking sequence of that light should point you in the right direction. There is typically a label that will tell you what the blinks mean.
Minimax nt heaters are on borrowed time, and in most my Delong with them once they start having an issue it will never end , basically they are lemons and replacements for them is very common

99 I LS 400 replace front converter right side still glowing red hot lack power

the cat glows, for these reasons
engine bank 2 is very rich and you have lots of air (oxygen)
present, when the right bank misfires that too blows. oxgen to the cat and it glows red hot.
fix the EFI fuel trim on bank 2,
use a scan tool to check trim, and do the diagnosis.

The heater ignites well, but if it gets a clear blue flame (and it burns very quiet), the thermocouple will glow red and the heater stays on, but when it gets a opaque blue flame (it makes a sound when...

I would start by replacing the thermocouple. It is suppose to keep the gas valve open when in operation. If the mercury in the thermocouple dries out it won't keep the gas valve open and thus the flame goes out. If that does not work then you have a gas valve problem.

Coils aren't glowing red

Most of the new heaters dont glow red. Its a safety thing so it dont catch your sheets or curtains, couch, chair etc on fire. Because of the idiots in this world we cant get a good heater anymore. Thats just the way it is.
