If you have the software re-installation discs which should have shipped with the computer, you can insert them into the disc drive and boot to the CD. from there you will be given the option to restore the OEM software and image. If you do not have the Discs, Dell will typically send out at least one free copy even for out of warranty systems.

Dell Dimension 1100 PC Desktop - restore to factory settings

if it comes with windows 7 or vista you can try and tap f8 until you get a boot menu and there should be an option to repair your computer, if it's windows xp you're kinda screwed unless you can access the recovery partition.

Hi lorenzovrfs, "To 'restore' the Computer to Factory Settings."

Follow these instructions:

  • "Restart the Computer."
  • While the Computer is "Booting-up!
  • Press [F8] button.
  • The {Advance Boot Option} window will open.
  • Click on the [Down] arrow to choose: "Repair Your Computer."
  • Now, press the "Enter" button.
  • Next, select the {Language} preference.
  • "You will Log-in as the "Administrator."
  • "Do not 'attempt' to do any work, while the "Restore is running!"
  • Once the [Restore is complete].
  • Click on the "Finish" button!"
!Important: "Take a 'moment to rate the help', so I can get 'credit' for the work.

How do I restore my Dell Dimension C521? I am

You need the C521 recovery disk, from Dell. Set the BIOS to boot from CD and start the system.

If it gives you the option of "Complete Reinstall" or "Repair", choose Complete Reinstall.

If it does not, or if it does not work - i.e., it always reads the disk and tries to maintain as much data as it can, you need to first wipe out the hard drive; there are many "Disk Wipe" utilities out there. I'd suggest using a boot disk such as DBAN (www.dban.org).

There is no way around this you need to get your OS from Dell and reload.

Sorry.

Browser will not open

You could just reformat your hard drive. (This will erase all information on the hard drive.)  Get a Vista/XP Installtion disk and boot up computer, press F8 right after the BIOS screen and click CD drive and follow the steps.
