My router won't even turn on when plugged in. What's the problem?

The router worked the very first time I turned it on. After set up, I changed the location of the router which meant changing outlets. After replugging it in, the router was dead. I tried the old outlet and the same thing happened. I tried just about every other outlet in the house and the same thing.

This may sound silly, but try another outlet.

This problem is pretty upfront and complete. No power, no lights. It could be the power supply is bad, or the unit. At this point, once you're sure the outlet is good (plug a lamp into it or use one you know is good), you'll have to get a hold of another power supply or another unit and test both.

You may find if you don't have another one handy, is to take it back to the store (new?), or find a power supply with the same characteristics (power output and load), and the same connector.

Barring that.. you may have to see if there's any technicians, computer stores, etc that will let you bring it in and try the combinations above to see where the problem lies.

Good luck!

Need info... is it DOA (Dead On Arrival)? did it happened after a power loss? or all of a sudden? you should first check the AC adapter for power with the use of a multimeeter, try plugging it in a differant outlet, then you could try performing a reset (according to manual instructions) but it could be just dead... these things happen

Sorry!

using a wireless uplink sucks and most equipment won\'t do it and the ones that try suck at it.

that said:

-set the 1st router up normal

-set the second router up EXACTLY the same (SSID/password)

-now change the IP on the second router so that if the 1st is 192.168.1.1 the 2nd is 192.168.1.2

-last turn off dhcp on the second router

-NOW run a ethernet from the 1st to the 2nd and plug it into any port but the internet port. (that port won\'t be used anymore)

-ta-da! 2 networks but as far as your wireless device is concerned they are the same 1.

i have done this many times.... I have 3 routers at my place and can walk the whole length of my condo without losing a single packet!

Adapter inactive

It is not the problem with the router. It is the problem with the wireless adapter on your computer. Open Network connections and look for Wireless network connection. If it is not there then open the Device Manager and look for Wireless network adapter under Network adapters. It seems that wireless adapter on your computer is not working or it is not detected by your computer. If you have external wireless adapter then unplug it and replug it.

My Belkin F5D8236-4 v3 Router won't turn on. We had a storm last night and the power went out but the router won't turn on. I have tried to plug it into different outlets to see if that would work...

Try resetting the router. There should be a little hole somewhere on it with a button inside that you can press with a paperclip. Try holding that button down while you unplug then plug the router in while holding it (if possible). If that doesn't work, I'd suspect the storm might've damaged the router somehow. Was it plugged into a surge protector, and/or have you noticed any other issues with anything else that was turned on at the time?

Can't connect dsi with d-link 2640r router

if it worked before and it doesnt now that either means you are too far away from your router or your router isnt pluged in on one of the plugs or there could be something wrong with your ds if none of the other sugestions work try following these steps.
1.turn on your ds 2.go to settings on your ds menu 3.when you get on settings click the right arrow 1 time and click on profile 4.now change your username and your message you dont have to change your color or your birthday.
it should work now. hope this helps!!!!!!!!!

My belkin router wont light up?

  1. Try plugging the router to a different power outlet.
  2. Reset the router.
  3. Check the power adapter specification of your router and if you have another power adapter that has the same specification then try that power adapter to your router.
  4. If using another power adapter and your router will not power on still, it is possible that your router is faulty already.
Hope this helps!
