Does your computer detect the wireless network broadcast by router or any other routers in the area? or is your problem more to do with authentication to the router?

  • jwiles300 Jan 04, 2011

My computer only detects the wireless network if I drop the network's bandwidth from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz. The whole point behind the new network was to get away from the clogged lower bandwidth! Sigh...

  • jwiles300 Jan 05, 2011

I do not want either a wired connection or a 2.4 GHz wireless connection. I want a 5 GHz wireless connection. Can this be done? If not, I will have to return my new router, as it won't be worth the money I spent on it. Thanks!

  • jwiles300 Jan 08, 2011

If I set the router to the 2.4 gigahertz band, the netbook can communicate just fine, but I'd like to be able to configure the netbook to communicate in the 5 gigahertz band as well. Is this possible?

  • jwiles300 Jan 08, 2011

The netbook talks to the router just fine with the router set to the 2.4 gigahertz band, but not set to the 5 gigahertz band. I need the higher frequency since my condo building is overloaded on the lower frequency. Can I change the netbook's settings to use the 5 GHz frequency to talk to the router?

First you need to configured your Linksys wireless with the SSID and encryption key and then configure the wireless card in your notebook with the Linksys wireless settings.

The password is the encryption key in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the laptop/computer to connect to this wireless router.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

If your router is already connected to the network ..things are easy ..you can either connect the laptop in one of the ports using a LAN cable ...and set the tcp/ip protocol in the LAN card of the laptop to automatically assign an IP address and it will take one in the range of the router settings...or ...connect it wireless by clicking on the icon of the wireless in the task bar ...and open it ...and in there click on the scan for network ..and choose from the list the one with your router 's name and connect ..
(assuming again the router has been configured..)
If you didn't set the router ...you have to follow the steps in the next link ...and configure it ..
In short ...connect the cable that came from your modem or after case the internet for a direct connection ..into the Wlan port ..and a computer into one of the lan ports ..
after that choose in the lan card to get an IP address automatically ..in the TCP/IP protocol ..
and to connect to the router's settings type the router's IP address in the internet explorer ( or what ever browser you have ) like this ... http://192.168.1.1 or the address written on the back of the router ..
IN this moment the log in page of the router will appear and you have to write the admin and password for it ..Usually the factory set ones are ....admin for the user and admin the password
Cause it is too much to write it ...the actually settings I link them cause they are available on the net ..
you can also find them on the support page of the router ..but basically it has a dhcp setting which will behave like a lan card ..and for the wireless feature all you have to do is enable it ...set a channel ...and a name and password for your network ..

http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=21474

and here you have the manually configuration in case you can not run the disk ..

Can not get into e2000

Who is your Internet service provider?

If it is a DSL company then in some cases the router IP address may change to 192.168.0.1.
What happens when you try to open 192.168.1.1.
Does it ask you for user name and password?
Did you install router using cisco connect software?
Open cisco connect software.
go to router settings.
Click on Advanced settings.
It will open the setup page.

My acer aspire one netbook will not connect with my new linksys e2000 router.. It was fine with my former linksys router

If your former linksys router was NOT N but rather b/g, then the problem is likely that your new router is running N and must be reconfigured to run b/g instead of n on its wireless. The acer aspire one netbook's integrated WiFi is 802.11b/g and the only way to do 802.11n is by using a plug-in USB 802.11n wireless adapter. To manually configure the router's wireless for 802.11b/g or n...
1. Connect the netbook using an ethernet utp cat5 patch cable between one of the four RJ-45 LAN ports on the router to the 10/100 ethernet RJ-45 port on the netbook's left side.
2. Start a browser like Internet Explorer and enter IP address 192.168.1.1 (default for Linksys)
3. On the login window, enter admin for username and admin for default password, then click OK
(The password may be changed if the router's setup software on its CD has been run.)
4. On the Linksys Setup page, click the Wireless tab
5. On the Linksys Wireless page, for Network Mode, click v for drop menu and click BG-Mixed
The preceding is from Chapter 3: Advanced Configuration which starts at page 16 of the 59-page Linksys E2000 user guide/manual. If you are missing this manual, it can be obtained by clicking...

A final note: The easiest way to setup the router is to run its setup software on the CD that comes with it. If you want to do this with the netbook (which doesn't have an internal CD drive), an external CD drive would have to be plugged into one of its USB ports.

Try upgrading the firmware. Linksys' website should have the latest version for your router posted there.
Are you able to log in to the web interface for your router? Are you able to ping your gateway address (likely, 192.168.1.1)?
You may also want to try resetting it to factory default.

I have a clearwire modem. I have to locate it 80 ft from my two home desktops and laptop. i need to know how to best do this. i have an e2000 router that i was hoping to use a wre54g range extender...

The Linksys E2000 router is N series router and the WRE54G is G range expander.
WRE54G is only computer with the WRT54G and WRT54GS routers.
You have E2000 router. I believe that router is capable of broadcasting the wireless signal upto 100 fts.
As Linksys says that router is capable of signal up 200 - 300 fts, but it is not.
You can try changing the wireless channel on the router to increase the signal.
Open the setup page of the router.
Go to wireless tab and change the configuration view to manual.
Try changing the channel to 11, 9, 6 ,1. See if that works.
Click Here for more information about the routers and network
