Smelly DW

Probably stays damp inside. That allows any trapped food particles to get funky. Clean it, wiping door seals and dispenser compartments, clean the filters, especially the drain filter if any. Then run on its hottest cycle with a cup or so of vinegar in it. That should clear up the smell. In future, let the beast get dry inside after use. Normally it will be pretty dry at the end of the cycle, but if you cut short the drying time to save on electricity, then you will have to leave the machine open for a little while, and open a crack all the time.

Dishes not getting clean, especially glass ware. Interior of washer has funky odor.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

Dirty dishes and funky smells are a sure sign of a partially blocked dishwasher drain. Start at the sink connection and clean every component and port of the drain all the way back to the pump assembly. Pull off hoses.. clean holes and make sure to dis-assemble and clean the air-gap if you have one. The garbage disposal port being obstructed is one of the biggest reasons for a poor drain performance.. however the Air-gap having particulate in the top of it is the #1 reason for dishwasher dranage problems.
If you still have the dirty / cloudy glassware after making sure that ALL of the external drain connections and tubing are clear in addition to checking for hose kinks:

Remove the lower wash arm and wash arm tower to check the sump for obstructions. Reach all the way to the pump inlet and remove any foreign debris. Some units have 2 impellers depending upon model number. ANY impellers must be intact and the pump body can not have any broken housing pieces. If the housing is broken the only remedy is pump motor replacement.

Since you did not include a model number this is a generic response that is applicable to the majority of dishwashers in use today.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Musty smell when a/c or heat turned on. How do I get rid of?

you can use disenfectant spray while the heater/ac is opperating on recirculating mode,or just place on highest heat mode, with fan on high and dry out the evaporator box-housing.for a few minutes. Before you exit the car. This should help ****** the mold-mildue smell.

Funky smell coming from bottom of frig when running

Is it a musty smell or that of something / (rodent) decomposing? If you only smell it when it is running then look for BLACK gunk that will probably appear almost like a paste. Even things like cat or dog hair will collect in damp areas. There should be a white plastic drip pan under your unit. Look for the freezer white plastic drain hose on the rear bottom of your unit on the freezer side and follow that hose to the drip pan. It catches water every time the unit defrosts which is 3 - 4 times a day depending on which defrost timer your unit has.

Usually there is a build up in the drip pan that gets mucky and then stinks like mold. It will of course need cleaned.

Also look at the fan area for the coils. Sometimes there are unwanterd home critters that attempt to get through the running fan blades and end dead up inside the cooling coil metal radiator area.

Funky smell and a fim reamin on dishes after

You can clean your dishwasher with either a product called "Dishwasher Magic" or white vinegar. Both are basically food safe acids in low concentrations, and will dissolve the hard water scale that builds up in dishwashers. You also should make sure you use rinse agent "Jet Dry" all the time unless you have a water softener.

Check to make sure that the drain hose loops as high as possible before coming back down to the disposer or branch tailpiece drain. If the drain hose just goes straight up to the drain connection, dirty water can seep back into the dishwasher.

There is a terrible smell in the dishwasher

All DW that I know of will have water sitting at the bottom.. it keeps the seal moist..check your drain line make sure its clean and not clog... when your DW goes into drain listen to see if its drainning like it did when you first used it... I'll check back later..
