Question about Acer AX1700-U3700A PC Desktop

2 Answers

I have an ACER AX1700-u3700a that does not power on. Checked the basics; cable, power outlet is good....Opened the PC and noticed that when the power button is pressed, the CPU fan moves slightly then stops....I read in an ACER blog of a person having the same problem and he found out it was his video card....So I removed the video card (GeForce G100 512mb DDR2) and the PC turns on. QUESTION: Is it the video card or the Power Supply on its way out ?

Looks like you have already answered your question but the PS behavior also points to a marginal power supply. If you replace the video card and you still have the problem, the PS is next. I would recommend replacing the original (if needed) with one offering high ratings since the mfr.s like to cheat to save a few yuan as long as it is an ATX type and matches yours for outputs. The cost difference is often much less than the increase in power you can buy so I would replace with a unit rated at minimum 25% higher rating; it will run cooler and live longer.
These things are incredibly cheaply made and failure of them is common.

If it was an intermittent problem, like the computer would turn on 1 out of every 4 attempts WITH the video card in, then MAYBE it's a bad power supply. With everything you have said though, it definitely just sounds like a bad video card. I have burned out 2 video cards myself and had to replace them, so I wouldn't be shocked that you have a bad one because they seem to go out more often than power supplies.
Replacing either component can be pretty costly, so if you want to test the hardware before you go off and buy new hardware, I would try to borrow a working power supply of equal or greater wattage and try to run your computer with that and your current video card. To see if you can get it going, but I'm betting the video card melted somewhere.

  1. Check your computer is getting power, (reconnect power from outlet)
  2. if power is ok, then open your computer cabinet, disconnect motherboard power (24 pin), then make short Green and Black wires and check power supply fan is working or not, (Switch off computer when disconnecting)
  3. if fan is not working replace power supply (SMPS) and check (working fan means SMPS is ok, but in some occasions Fan may work in defective SMPS )
  4. if the power section is ok you need check you mother board

My acer ax1700 u3700a will not turn on. I think it is the power supply, but I'm not sure

When I had this problem it turned out to be my video card (unless my p/s is on its way out and just won't power the video card anymore). Removed the video card and switched to onboard VGA and it boots fine. Had no Win7 Aero though so I went into bios and set it to onboard VGA and UMA 256 instead of Auto and my Aero is back as well.

My acer ax1700 u3700a will not turn on. I think

When you turn it on, does it respond? Do any lights lit up? Do you have a known good ac adapter to try it with? Or is the ac adapter you are using lits up and/or powering on a different computer?Try to test both to check the functionality of the ac adapter and the port. If ac adapter will work with a different pc, then possibly the port is damaged. You may need to replace the motherboard. If still it wont turn on, then you may just need to replace the ac adapter.

Acer AX1700-U3700A with variable Audio on HDMI

Your problem isnt in your PC, it's because you chose the onboard sound to listen to music etc, which is normal. Unfortunately, you need to choose the HDMI Audio output if you want sound on your TV FROM the HDMI cable. Right click the sound icon located to the lower right side of your screen and choose (adjust audio properties). Now go to the audio tab and click the output device window and choose your HDMI audio output, whatever it may be called. Just pick the one that wasn't selected when you opened it and click ok or apply. Now all audio output is controlled by your Video card lol. Crazy aint it?

Acer AX1700-U3700A Desktop NO VIDEO OUTPUT

  1. Check video card
  2. Check monitor
Check these two things to find the fault its probably something really dumb it happens to the best of us even me sometimes, I had a monitor burn a power cord once and do not know why until i found a un grounded outlet so check that also make sure you plugged into a surge surpressor and or backup device......
