Question about Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS. Currently, its lens is stuck open and when I turn it on it makes some clicking sounds then comes up with a black screen saying, Lens Error, restart camera. I tried restarting the camera and then taking the battery out and letting it sit for a while before inserting it and restarting again. This has not worked. The camera hasn't been dropped or abused - one minute it was working. I put it in its case and into my purse then pulled it out later in the day and when I turned it on the lens opened and the error message came up. Any advice?

We have a Canon SD1100 IS and we have a black screen. If we take a photo we can not see the photo we have taken, but we can see previous photos. We tried the Disp button and it does not fix the problem....

Brian, A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

SD1100 IS. Battery charged. Turn on power. no

sounds like the ribbon conector inside the phone that sends power and the signal to operate the lens has come loose. you could take it apart your self and just pop it back on with a pair of pin nose pliers or send it to a shop, however you will be looking at a bit fat bill if you do that.

My canon powershot SD1100 IS camera lcd screen isn't working. Its black when i try to view the picture and take the picture

You may have just accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. Press the DISP button once with the camera turned on to see if that corrects the problem. If this doesn't correct it...

Lens error, restart camera message

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Lens error restart camera

same thing just happened to me today. the little girl that I babysit dropped it about 1 foot to the rug on the ground, not a hard drop at all. so i tried taking out the batteries and hit it on the table (read on other sites) then i gently turned the end of the lens (my lens was stuck out) counter clock wise and it clicked and then worked.
