Having the same problem as the others. Freezer works fine but fridge is not cooling. Not a very good product from hotpoint as its only 2 1/2 years old.

  • Anonymous May 18, 2009

Have had endless problems with this 3year old fridge freezer for over 6 months.

Have been in contact with insurers who have negotiated a replacement.

Hi ive had the same problem and solved it thank god !!! it happend to me about three times tll i sussed it.well here goes disconect from the mains defrost then you have to empty the freezer and remove the large plastic cooling panel at the back thers about 10 torque screws to undo. then you have to carefully remove the silver foil strip along the back of the cooling finns, the problem is that the ice on the fins builds up over time and collects on the strip and clogs the whole thing up. its been over a year and no problems since then and the fridge is as cold as ever good luck, will.

This model is one of the worst that Hotpoint has made in their history.
I got mine and the first time it failed 11 months after bought.  Call out warranty, technician arrive and replace main controller board.  Six months later, failed again.  Defrost it and started working.  A year later it failed again, the recirculation duct from the freedge to the freezer, gets blocked by ice.  There is something wrong with the defrost system.  My next move before buying a new one will be to replace the defrost switch.

Not recommend to anybody.

I had the same problem. I recommend recycling the thing, researching the available models in your price range and buying a repalcement.

Got a hotpoint ffa97, freezer was still cold and no alarm had gone off to say that that there had been a power cut yet the fridge temp had risen enough to curdle milk??\r\ntemp gauge was still showing...

Milk can sometimes curdle in a working fridge. But it does sound like your defrost system may be malfunctioning. Can you empty your freezer and inspect the defrost system behind the air circulator fan?

I know that defrost elements sometimes go bad and the controllers can pop too. You should check your operators manual and see how to put the fridge into manual defrost. *(it usually involves turning the fridge light on and off by hand. See if the freezer drains during manual defrost. If you have lots of food that dries out in a frost free unit the moisture contains a lot of contaminants that can plug the defrost drain. Which leads to a blocked air passage between the freezer and fridge sides.

You might want to get a small backup fridge for a while to run this down.
Or just use up the food in your fridge before running the tests.

Good luck and be careful.

Fridge of my Hotpoint FFA90 fridge-freezer freezes

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Hotpoint ffa97p - the fridge is too cold and not responding to temperature changing

I'm assuming you're meaning that you reset the "cold control" in the refrigerator area and it is not responding. Try resetting the T stat in the freezer to between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 and see if the unit continues to run on. If I have this the other way around, set the "cold control" the same as the T stat. The "cold control" is just a flapper door, it doesn't control the compressor only the T stat in the freezer does..
If the T stat is set as I said and the unit just keeps on running and never shuts down except to defrost, the T stat is bad and needs replaced.
There is a chance that the flapper door in the "cold control" is stuck wide open. Removing the cover and inspecting it might tell you if that's happening.

Freezer -5 Fridge 50

You have a defrost problem. Refrigerator gets cold via freezer. If blocked with frost, will restrict cold air into refrigerator.

Hotpoint FFA97 freezer works but fridge does not

It seems to me that there is a leak of gas from your unit. This is if you have 1 compressor/motor)If there is two compressors on unit then it can be thermostat for fridge.Anyhow check if motor is running all the time and is wery hot, if it is there is to little gas in system .This should be covered by guarantee.Jan
