Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Door won't close and overhead light blinks 9 (or 10) times. I pulled the manual release and the mechanism then moved up and down fine. I then re-engaged the door and it worked. This has happened 3 times in the last month. what's wrong? Chamberlain Liftmaster

Check your IR door sensors. They are likely out of alignment. The can be adjusted by eye. Check that there is nothing blocking the light beam, even spider webs and debris can cause them to act up.
By pressing the wall button and holding the button the door will close fully even if the sensors are defective or blocked..

Overhead door opener 555 with manual release won't lockup chain

Sometimes if the clip is not reset then it wont catch the chain mechanism again to open or close the door. If you havent already reset the pull cord clip then that would be my guess. Try closing the garage door reset the clip with the rope attached, push it up til it clicks. and hit the garage door opener button. the rope and clip should move along the track until it hits the arm bracket where the garage door attaches to the chain mechanism.

If that does not do the trick then the clip has some screws on either side of the plastic casing and may need to be loosened and readjusted to match up with the garage door arm bracket and then locked back into place. That should do the trick if all esle fails, you may have to call the door company to come and correct the problem. Hope it works out!

There are two possibilities here. First is if the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a little. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

Second is if the door is reversing when it hits the floor. This is a problem with the door traveling too far in the down direction. Locate the 'down limit' located on the side of the motor unit and turn it a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking may be necessary.

To release the door with the rope - pull straight down and then pull the rope in the direction away from the door. This should lock the mechanism in the open position. To release this pull straight down and release.

I have 556 overhead door opener. The cable and photo eye are just fine,if I hold the hardwired push button the door will go down, if I use the remote the door will move down a few inches and reverse. How...

The f- and f+ buttons decrease and increase force respectively. The number of times the green light flashes tells you the force level, from one to seven flashes, and then solid green light for maximum force. After a power outage, my door would start down and immediately go back up. Found it with five flashes, and actually solved the problem by decreasing force, to three flashes - with too much force, the door moved too jerkily and the auto-reverse mechanism would kick in. I figured out the f- and f+ buttons by downloading the opener manual in pdf form online at: http://www.overheaddoorpartsonline.com/products/MODEL-%23-556-%26-656-OWNER%27S-MANUAL.html

Good luck!

check the track system to make sure all the wheels are in track and/or there are no obstructions preventing it from opening, it may be equipped with an emergency shut off if there are any obstructions, also, make sure track is well greased, too dry of a track causes alot of friction.

Volvo xc90 rear hatch door closed and won't open

Hold the hatch hard closed into its frame whilst pulling on the release handle. The mechanism on most cars consists a grab/release on the door and a simple metal hop at the bottom of the frame. Over time the hoop can become loose and move slightly inwards each time the door is shut. The door seal rubbers push back on the door surround putting a lot of tension against the grab/release mechanism preventing it from releasing. By pressing on the door and compressing the rubber surround you will take the pressure off the release mechanism and allow it to open when you pull on the handle. Once the door hatch is open, loosen the mounting bolts to the metal hoop and move it out about 10mm. Tighten the mounting bolts. Shut the door gently as a trial close and check for security of fit. If very slack, ease the hoop inwards a couple of millimetres. When happy, tighten the mounting bolts securely. draw around the hoop mount with indelible ink so if it moves in future you have early visual warning and can remount it easily
