Wii unit will not read discs - Nintendo Wii Console

Unfortunately, no, you cannot format the Wii to accept different region codes.
But, you say the UAE is where you bought the Wii, which I assume is the United Arab Emirates? Which would be Region Code 2, which includes Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and Greenland.
Region code 1 includes only the United States of America and Canada.
However, if the Winter Sport 2012 is a dual-layer dvd disc, the Wii can have issues reading it. This is a common problem with the game Super Smash Bros. Melee. The Wii's laser reader was not initially designed to read such formats and may need cleaning in order to read the disc.

Try to clean the lens first it might read the new disk.

The first step is to check the disc. If you are sure this is not a problem with the game disc, then this is usually a problem with either the laser inside of the Wii's drive, or some other issue going on inside of the DVD drive. well you can get a cleaner wii thing cause your wii might have dust in it so you can try that there around $20-$30 each in aus so that should work

I had the same problem with my Wii. Unfortunatly nothing worked to fix the problem so I called Nintendo's customer services. They were able to replace the unit free of charge. I would simply give them a call: 1-800-255-3700 and press 2.
