The motor coupling could be bad or the lid switch is bad.close the lid down then open it up a little and close it,if you don't hear a clicking sound then the lid switch is bad and most likely water will still be in the machine or the other common problem is the coupling part number 285753A and it's around 20 dollars.unplug the washer, remove the two phillips screws that hold down the top console, flip the console up and with a screw driver pop off the two metal clips, stick the screw driver in the hole and on top of the clip and push back to the wall and the clips will pop out.near the right hand side clip there's a wire harness, that's the lid switch wires unplug it then open the lid, grab the frame and pull up and back and remove the frame of the washer.look at the bottom, you'll see the pump, remove the two clips with a screw driver, slide off the pump, remove the two screws and the two clips on the motor, slide the motor out and on the back of it you'll see the coupling.also remove the other half of it off the transmission.if this isn't broke you either have a bad tranny.let me know what you find

Whats wrong when the bottom spins but the top doesnt

It is normal for the top half of the agitator to turn separately from the bottom half. The top half is called a clothes mover,it twirls one way when the machine is washing drawing the clothes downwards. If it is no longer turning in one direction it need a new dog & ratchet kit installed down the centre.

My whirpool duel washer agitates or washes but

have you replaced the motor control. i had this happen 1 year ago and had to have it replaced. i am having the same problem and have done some testing but have not found anything else. you can buy this part from whirpool for about $160 delivered to your home. this is exactly how it acted the 1st time it went out. some loads would spin out great and the next load would be wet.

Whirlpool washer does not agitate/wash but the spin cycle seems to work. I've found that the bottom section of the agitator blades are turning but the top section does not turn. I can also turn the top...

The problem that your washing machine is not agitating, you will need to check certain things.
Please check the timer to see if it is in good working order or not. Next you will need to check the motor and the motor switch. On some of the newer washers the door switch also controls the motor.
If the motor starts running after the washer has filled to the selected level, but the agitator doesn’t move, you will need to check the following parts.

The agitator dogs. They are located inside of the agitator clothes mover. You will need to remove them and check to see if they are in need of been replace.
The clothes mover. This part is the top part of the dual action agitator. Its job is to move the clothes from the top of the spin drum to the bottom part of the agitator.
You will also have to check the inside of the clothes mover to make sure that the gear like cuts are not worn out.
However another problem could be a broken motor coupler.

Thank you for contacting

The upper agitator on Whirlpool Model LA9100XTW1 is not rotating

To repair agitator remove the top of it < snaps on> then remove bolt from center and the agitator will split in middle. You'll find a center cogg with three arms remove this and replace with new one< the kit that you described is this part > and assemble it.The coggs are move freely to engage so you don't have to align them in any way.

Clothes mover of whirlpool top-loading washer is loose. Agitates.

You need to replace the agitator dogs inside the clothes mover (agitator). take of the top then the cover, remove th bolt and take the top half off. you should see four "dogs" that need to be replaced.

Whirpool washer LSN8244AQ0 motor spins but agitator does not move.

Ok this is a old school machine. Have a look at the drawing below. So no agitation or spin? How about the pump, does it drain? Now if it drains and thatis it then item 13 below is a coupler that is probably out. You can pull the machine out and tilt it back and using a flashlight examine for black dust and touch to see if it is soft in spots and the two white flanges are intact. You may have to remove the pump and motor to inspect.Use part 285753A .

Whirlpool Ultimate care ll Quiet wash Model # LSQ9564SQ0

The ***** part of the agitator is supposed to ratchet in the clockwise direction. this is normal. If you can spin it in either direction (turned off) then you need a set of agitator dogs.

Ultimate II is refusing to go into agtation/wash cycle

It sounds like a bad timer unit, and possibly a lid switch.

As far as the water overfilling, that may be an unrelated problem, such as the water level switch... but most likely the timer.

I have the same model, and it wouldn't drain.. and it would try to spin when full of water... an interesting sight to see!
