Question about GE Profile 25.6 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Stainless-Steel

1 Answer

THe water line freezes up in the winter, and we have to turn the freezer and refrigerator off for a period of time before it thaws and we can get water again. This has been going on for a few years now, and it is getting frustrating. Is there a replacement part we need?

Conntact g.e.when the foam was blown into the freezer doors the water line didn't get fully covered and the water line freezes up inside the door.they might replace the door for you or g.e. has a heater kit for this part number WR49X10173.it connects to wires inside the cover where the dispenser is.i've never used one yet,i found out about it online, but like i said i've had customers that have called g.e. and g.e. replaced the freezer door for them.give them a call and see what they say.good luck.let me know how you make out

Try using an hairdryer or defrosting the unit completely , this often get rid of blockage caused by frozen lines fixing the problem.

The water lines can also be unblocked from dirt using a thin flexible shaft. This after defrosting.

If all that does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the water valve, the icemaker solenoid, or the whole icemaker assembly.

Ice freezes in freezer bottom and drain stops up causing water to drip into refrigerator floor. Have to remove freezer pan and use hair dryer to thaw out drain line. Maybe the defrost heater is not working...

Also check for bad door gasket or door left open for long period of time. There is a solution, you can install a low heat heater into the drain hole and connected it to defrost heater wires. Good luck.

Can't get water at the dispenser on a GE sxs

GSS25QMFC I beleive is manufactured by GE. The line could definitely be frozen. 99% of refrigerators you cannot get into the doors. They are glued together and filled with spray in insulation. There is no easy way to do it. You can try a hair dryer or just let the fridge sit for 24 hours turned off with the doors open. Another place to check for a freeze up is in the rear of the refrig section. Most refrigerators run the line in the refrigerator to chill the water and if your refrig section gets too cold they can freeze in there. Most of the time refrigerators have a disconnect in the water line at the bottom corner of the freezer door where it goes through the hinge. You might have to yank off the lower grill to see it, but you can sometimes disconnect it there and let water run out. Good Luck

Water dispenser suddenly not dispensing water

Remove the bottom kick plate . Follow the plastic line about 6" and you'll find a connector . Push in on one end of the connector and at the same time , pull the line out . Close the door and press for water . If no water comes out of the disconnented line , the water valve is probably bad . If water does come out , the line inside the freezer door is frozen . If this turns out to be so , you can lower the freezer temp for maybe days , or , put the food on the door, inside the freezer , tape the light switch down ( to keep the lite off and fan running ) and tape plastic over the freezer door opening so the freezer will continue to work . Reinstall the line back into the connector by pushing the hose firmly into place . Leave the freezer door open for maybe 1 or 2 days for thawing out , going by ocassionally and pressing the water dispensor . Important : lower the freezer temperature slightly to keep line from freezing again . ONLY CHANGE THE FILTER WHEN WATER FLOW SLOWS OR ICE CUBES GET SMALL . The change filter lite comes on by the amount of times water dispensor is used and to make money for the vendor .

Everything works but no water

Try turning down the freezer a little.

You can 'thaw' the water line in the door by hanging some towels in the freezer with the door open. Should thaw in a couple hours. At least this way you don't need to empty the freezer.
