Set the shooting mode to one of the two remote modes. The quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. The delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter.

Press the Info button. Use the direction keys to the shooting mode (along the right side, fifth from the top). Press OK. Use up/down to select the remote modes (the two at the bottom).

For full details, refer to the "Shooting Mode" section in the D40x manual.

How to set my ml-l3 remote control on my nikon d3100?

The D3100 doesn't work with the ML-L3. It uses the MC-DC2 remote cord instead.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

I couldn't get the Nikon ML-L3 Remote Control to work on my Nikon D40x when I was using the external flash (SB-900). When I took it off, it worked fine. Is there a way to get it to work with the external...

Set the camera's release mode to one of the two remote modes. Quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. Delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter.

To set the camera's release mode, press the button to bring up the information display. Press the button to put the cursor into the information display. Use the cursor keys to highlight the release mode (fifth item from the top along the right edge) and press OK. Use the cursor keys to highlight the desired mode and press OK.

Full details are in the manual in the "Release Mode" section (page 53 in my copy).

Set the camera's shooting mode to one of the two remote modes. Quick-response remote takes a picture as soon as you push the button on the remote. Delayed-response remote waits two seconds so you can hide the remote behind your back.

Ml-L3 with D40x

Yes it does work, but you need to change the setting within the menu from possibly continuous shooting to remote.

And you have to point the remote at the front of the camera as this is where the sensor is.

Set the release mode to Quick-response or Delayed-remote, then point the ML-L3 at the receiver and push the button.

"Shooting Mode" is on page 32 on my D40 manual.

Using remote ML-L3

Since the D40 and D40x are nearly identical, go to menus, the pencil icon, shooting mode, select the bottom one. Oh , and check the battery in the remote, mine was dead.:-)

ML-L3 Remote control

Sadly, the ML-L3 does not work with the D700. You need to buy the much clumsier and much more expensive ML-3, which has a wireless receiver you hook to the camera and a wireless transmitter you use to fire the camera.

Lame, but true.

Using the ML-L3 with the D60

Got it! It's on page 54 of the manual (mine anyway).

Choose release mode from the Quick settings display.

You have a choice between:
single frame (default)
continuous (burst mode)
self-timer
delayed remote (using the ML-L3)
quick response remote (using the ML-L3)

I just took 4 self-portraits using quick response. And deleted them straightaway!
