Question about Bushnell BackTrack Handheld GPS Receiver

My backtrack doesn't point in the correct direction, in regards to way point target. Often error is about 20 degrees east of the correct direction, but unfortunately this not reliable enough to count on it. curiously, the distance from my location to the target seems to be very accurate, checked against usgs topo maps, Compass function is also somewhat inaccurate, but the error does not seem to correlate closely with the way point problem. for example the compass might be off about 4 or 5 degrees to the east while the way point is 20 degrees east of the target. SOftware problem? Inherent limitations of the technology at this price point?

You have condesation built up in your freezer whereby the evaporator fan or the vents are most likely blocked off.

Turn fridge off. Empty freezer and either put a pot of boiling water inside freezer or with the aid of a hair dryer try to defrost the freezer. If you are able to remove the back panel on the freezer that would be ideal as you can directly target the frost.

New Bushnell Backtrack 3 points in the wrong direction most of the time by about 30 - 90 degrees. VERY inaccurate!

Targets are off by about 20 degrees, and we have tried everything on the config menu to try to correct this. What do we do to get targets to be on accurate bearing? Thank you .


You have to be in the "Installation Mode" to adjust the heading. Hold menu key down while pressing the "pwr" key. Then select menu/installation and you'll be able to find the heading adjustment section.

this is solved by starting with the SECOND leg of the flight considered as a triangle.

Find how far DUE east the plane travels (100 km x Cos10 = 83.9 km) using 10 degrees because that is how much is left of the 90 degree quadrent after subtracting the 80 degrres course direction.
Similarly find out how far DUE north the plane travels (100 km x Cos80 = 11 km).

Now get the total flight NORTH = 300 + 11 = 311
- and total EAST = 83.9

Finally, use Pythagoras theorem.to get the total DISTANCE:
square root of ( 311 squared + 83 squared ) = 321 km

Also the DIRECTION from its Tangent of 83 /311 = 14.9 degrees

Firstly, though the answer is expressed as an angle "south" of west, the canoe will be traveling southeast, so the degree should be read south of east, not south of west. The ultimate velocity of the canoe will me 1.065 m/s.  The direction is 22 degrees south of east, or 158 degrees from West, but not 158 degrees south of west, since beyond 90 degrees south of west you have south. I used trig and I passed calculus so I'm pretty sure i'm right.
