There is actually a brake on this unit and you have to remove the thrust bearing and pulley from under unit..there are several washers so be ware and a keyway that has to be removed...the problem is when you get to the brake replacement you have to have aspecial tool to renove the brake ...there are approx. (6) 5/16 screws that come out of the plate so you have to have a tool to hold the brake assembly in place as there is a huge spring with about 200lbs of pressure on can get it off but it is hell getting it on without tool... it is a brake removal tool that maytag sales
hope this helps....whats going on is there is a disk like brake and the unit has rubber on the outside that makes contact with the metal to slow down and stop spin cycle the rubber is worn and now you are hearing the metal on metal start. good luck pleae vote....

Hi, Anonymous I just loaned my brand new pair of listening ears to your local dealers chief technician so he could take your bike for a test ride and give you his professional opinion and estimate about your noise and repair cost. Good luck and have nice a day.

What could cause a loud metal scraping noise in the back of lincoln navigaitor while backing up?

loose exhaust part or something to do with the running gear is the best you want to find other wise could be a tranny problem ,so start with checking the oil/fluid level and take it from there

I have a loud squealing noise upon starting the car. the squealing normally lasts about 30-45 seconds. sometimes the noise will appear aftrer pulling off from a stopped position, as well. all belts

Try to tighten the belts a little firm.Sounds like when engine idling no squelling only when about to take off .Some times belts may seem ok on the outside but if you look on inner side you tend to see cracks in the belts .

My daughters car is hard to steer and makes a loud squelling noise. What could this be?

Those cars have manual belt tensioners and sounds like it needs to be adjusted because it has stretched the belt.

1992 Pickup: loud squelling sound under hood when started...

Sounds like a loose belt.

There are a few things that can cause a belt to slip like that.

The belt could be not tightened all the way. If it uses a sepentine belt with a tensioner, the tensioner could be bad. If it is not a serpentine belt, then you will have multiple belts and the one that is making the noise can be loose. Use something to pry it tight and tighten down the bolts holding the component th belt goes to.

It can also be a bad pulley. Pulleys have bearings inside of them, at times the bearings will go out and make the pulley hard to turn. You can usually find this easily by taking the belt off and turning the pulley with your hand. If it is hard to turn or makes a grinding noise when is bad and needs to be replaced.

Old belts can also cause this along with a belt that is wet. There is a spray on Belt Dressing that helps get rid of noisy belts, but I consider that a bandaid to a bigger problem.

Faint to loud humming noise while driving and turning...

Could be either a loose belt or you are low on power steering fluid,or the power steering pump could just be worn out.

Maytag dryer - makes squelling noise when you turn it on

Your glides are getting thin. Not unlike that of shoes on an automobile the glide will wear down and start the old metal to metal screaching.
Get the front off and get the drum out. Remove the glides and replace them. Or flip them over if you are
a cheapskate. LOL Use this GUIDE that tells how to access yer dryer innards and a lot of other cool stuff. Hay I wrote it!
