L555d s7005 win7 not recognizing dvd drive. dvd drive does not show up in boot sequence. How to fix?

if your system is not recognizing the drive its controller may have failed.
if you can enter setup see if the bios detects the drive. if it does not then the drive has indeed failed.
direct replacement of the drive is the easiest fix.

The dvd's stops and skips. Can I clean it or replace the dvd drive?

You can buy a DVD cleaning kit follow instructions, if this fails! the laser pickup assembly will need to be replaced, "yes you can replace it" but you should check the cost against a new machine.

Dvd/cd drive doesnt read disc

the lens of the drive is dirty or the laser optics have or are failing, try a DVD, if dvd's work but cd's wont, then its definitely the lens going bad, replace the drive. they cost around 20$

Dvd no read error

The 'NoRead' error points to a faulty DVD-RAM drive. If the drive is making clunking/whirring noises, and taking too long to read an inserted disc, chances are the traverse unit (spindle motor/laser assembly) within the drive has failed. Unfortunately, this part cannot be replaced; you would need to replace the whole drive.

Look around for a good cheap used one, or, if you are prepared to do so, order a new drive (brand new DVD-RAM drives ordered through Panasonic could cost a couple of hundred dollars or more though so be warned). Check the model number on the top of the drive (prefixed with VXY before considering any replacement.

My imac dvd drive reads DVDs but ejects CDs and installation disc

The optical drive has separate hardware for reading CD-disks and for reading DVD-disks.
So, "half" of the drive has failed. Replace the drive, since that will be less-expensive than an attempt at a repair.

Toshiba cd-rw/dvd-rom drive...power on but disc door will not actvate and open

Hello,
There are quite a few reasons the DVD tray in your laptop might fail to open when you hit the eject button. About the worst thing it can be is if the motor or gear train failed, which would mean replacing the drive. If the disc in the drive plays OK, you know that the power and the connector are fine. If not, you should try reseating the drive in the bay. It's also possible for the drive to be locked in software by the operating system, or for a power management scheme to have cut power to the drive. Check these by right clicking the drive icon and checking properties, or looking at you power management settings. But, when all else fails and you can't get the disc out of the drive, there's always, THE MIGHTY PAPERCLIP.

Follow the bellow link,

Hope this helps,

Can you replace the internal DVD drive for LG RC797T? This is the 2nd time the internal drive has failed; LG wants more than the unit is worth to repair.

If the DVD drive is installed in a desktop computer, you can replace it with any branded DVD drive.
If the DVD drive is in a laptop, then you are most likely restricted to one from the laptop manufacturer.
