Shows directions, but no longer speaks

My Nuvi 660 is unable to speak; I have tried several ways to get it to do so without any luck.

My GARMIN Nuvi 660 doesn't have sound all of a sudden; voice directions or even the touch screen "beeps" like it always did. The sound volume (navigation) says 100%. Is there something that I accidentally messed up?

The Speaker has stopped functioning. I am able to blow into it to get it to work for a few seconds, but that's it. I guess I'm going to be forced to go into the case to look for a short. Great directions from you guys on openeing the case... Not happy with Garmin on this one.

Volume made a couple of odd noises and then stopped speaking

Plug a headset into the audio jack and see if there's audio when Jack or Jill speak. If no audio there, you've got a defective audio amplifier stage. If audio can be heard through a headset, you've got a blown speaker.
You'll need to send it back to Garmin for repair in either case, though in the case of a blown speaker, you <could> use external Ipod-type speakers, if you didn't mind the kludge.

: My nuvi is supposed to speak street names when giving voice prompts but it doesn't. How can I fix this?
Answer: All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting on the nüvi line of products, please follow these steps:
  1. In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon.
  2. Tap on "Locale"
  3. The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice.
  4. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names.
  5. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed.
The device should now speak street names.
