Maytag MDG7600AWW makes scraping sound

Maytag atlantis intellidryer. When on the dryer makes a scraping sound. also makes same sound when i turn the drum by hand. it looks like there is a soft cloth(ish) seal between the drum and the back metal plate. half this cloth seal has worn out. i suspect this is causing the sound. Is it the "seal tumbler" part? I also do not know how to get to this to replace it. It looks like i have to take apart the drum I am not sure if I can get at this from the back of the unit

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.

This link, http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SmartSearch.aspx, provides exploded view imagery, belt routing diagrams, parts imagery and function, parts ordering and shipping information, error code details, just about anything you need to get your appliance up and running again. Just follow the links to navigate through the site.

You will need to enter the model number stamped on the manufacturers product information data tag, located on the unit, and not in the User’s Manual. to access your product information.

This repair is made through the front of the dryer by removing 2 phillips head screws located approx. 2" off the floor on each side. http://www.repairclinic.com/0100_18.asp, pull the front panel toward you from the bottom to disengage the front clips from the top panel, and set to the side,(wires can remain attached).

Remove the 4 - 5/16" screws from the front bulkhead. pull the bulkkhead toward you to disengage from the tumbler.
Remove the drum belt- see diagram, click link, http://www.repairclinic.com/0079.asp#DiagramE

Now you can remove the old seal and install the new one. To order new part, click the link below.

Good information in the response and looks like a good place for parts, but I think the instructions for removing the front/top are for a slightly different model.

I have this dryer and just recently had to get into it to put new a new baffle in the drum. So I wanted to lift the top.

This dryer doesn't have a flat front. The top of the front slopes back and the door kind of wraps over the top.

If you open the door, you will see two screws on each side, two hold the hinges for the door and two corresponding ones on the other side. Remove these and pop off the door. It has small tabs that go into the front.

You should now be able to tilt the front foward from the top. There is a clip on each side, but it comes open fairly easily. You can then lift the front off the two clips on the bottom.

If you don't need to lift the top, you can probably stop here.

The top is help by a clip on each side of the front. Take out the screws and twist the clips to remove them so you don't lose them. The top should now lift up and pivot on the plastic hinges in the back. There is a plastic clip near the front on each side of the top, but they should come loose pretty easily.

Maytag intellidryer - starts up with heat etc OK but scraping / squeeling noise, then motor cuts out

It sounds like the roller wheel that rolls the tub is bad. and this could cause the heater to over heat that would cause it to shut off. Hope this helps

Maytag gas dryer, model #MDG7600AWW does not turn on

a thermal fuse should read shorted until it gets hot .. the buzzing you hear might be the motor running but not turning the drum .. that would be a broken belt .. the motor is spring loaded to keep the belt tight ..the belt is long .. it goes around the drum and down to the motor ... belts are available at many appliance parts shops .. changing it is not hard for someone handy .. a bit more than you would want to handle if you are not mechanically inclined ... on some maytags the whole front of the dryer comes off with just two screws near the bottom .. that makes servicing much easier ..

This link shows the next likely cause of your issue. Remove the front panel and inspect the sensor bar which is located at the 4 o'clock level on the drum bulkhead, ( see the first link for location). Ascertain that 2 wires are connected to it and that black sensor bar is not cracked or broken.

This link will offer more assistance if the above 2 items check good.

Scraping sound on left side as it goes around

You need to replace the tumbler guide rubber wheel. I would suggest to avoid further issues, replace all base guides.

It requires dismantling the Dryer.

My dryer squeeks when running

Hi, I've had a similar problem (I think) on my MDG7400 dryer. There was a cyclical squeak, metal against metal. It turned out to be the screw that holds the drum paddle to the drum. It had worked itself loose and was scraping against the inside wall of the dryer. Remove the front door lift the top, and tighten 'er up. Hope that helps.
